We had the good fortune of connecting with Mika Street and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mika, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?

Over time, my perspective on work-life balance has shifted significantly. In my previous business endeavors, I was fully immersed, dedicating extensive hours to work. It was intense and thrilling, but as life evolved, so did my priorities.

When I made the decision to venture into selling photography, I consciously chose a different approach. I aimed to integrate work into my family life rather than allowing it to dominate everything else. Although I maintain a strong passion for my professional pursuits, I’ve become more aware of the importance of striking a balance between work commitments and spending quality time with my family.

Balancing these aspects of life remains an ongoing process, given the ever-evolving demands of both work and family. However, I’ve adopted a proactive mindset, regularly reassessing my priorities and adjusting my schedule accordingly. While work is undoubtedly significant, it no longer takes precedence over my health and relationships. This mindfulness has led to a greater sense of fulfillment, both personally and professionally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Thank you for the opportunity to share more about my journey as a photographer. I specialize in landscape, seascape, and travel photography. What sets my photography apart is not only my technical skill but also the unique perspective and life experiences that I bring to each image.

Growing up in Israel and spending three years living on a boat provided me with a childhood filled with adventure and exposure to diverse cultures and landscapes. These early experiences ignited my passion for travel and exploration, which I now channel into my photography.

My path to becoming a photographer was unconventional, to say the least. I have worked at one of the big 5 consulting firms and owned and operated Pilates studios in NYC and the Hamptons for a decade. However, it took time at home with my two young children to find the space and perspective to pursue this passion professionally.

What I am most proud of in my artistic journey is the ability to combine my love for travel and adventure with my passion for photography. Each image I capture tells a story of the places I’ve visited and the emotions I’ve experienced along the way.

Despite the challenges—from balancing family life to career transitions—I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and authenticity. I’ve overcome obstacles by embracing change and by keeping a positive mindset.

Ultimately, I want the world to know that my photography is a reflection of my deep appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our planet. Through my lens, I aim to inspire others to explore, appreciate, and protect the natural world around us. Thank you for allowing me to share my story and my art with you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Santa Monica/Venice:

I spent a few Winters in Santa Monica and fell in love with the crisp air that time of year. While several of my very favorite spots are no longer there, I still always visit the below when I am in town.

Restaurant – Gjelina and Katsuya; they never gets old in my book. Huckleberry for lunch.
Pilates – Phoenix Classical Pilates
Yoga – I always try and hunt down Steve Ross and see if he is teaching anywhere
Hair Salon – Highbrow Hippie
Spa – Surya
Walk/Hike – along the ocean, Temescal or Toganga

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, I owe a huge shoutout to my husband. His unwavering encouragement and belief in me were instrumental in taking my passion for photography and turning it into a career. He saw the potential in me long before I fully embraced it myself. I am truly grateful for his love, support, and unwavering belief in my abilities. This photography journey and life journey would not be the same without him by my side.
