We had the good fortune of connecting with Liya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liya, how do you think about risk?
A big part of being an artist and an entrepreneur is about not being scared to take risks. They play a big role in my life and career and they excite me. I perceive them as character builders and remind myself that they are inevitable if I want to move forward in my career and in life in general. If it wasn’t for risk-taking I wouldn’t be doing what I am today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been performing since I can remember but as of a few years ago, I started recording and releasing original music. I’ve loved every step of the way of creating a song and bringing it to life sonically and visually. I can’t say that it has always been easy, especially because I’ve been doing it independently but that has made the process all the more rewarding at the end. Challenges are inevitable when you’re an artist but the way I handle them is by breaking them into bite-sizes and “attacking” them one by one. And of course along the way I’ve learned so many lessons but the biggest of them all is that there’s always going to be more growing to do and a lot more to achieve. And that’s what keeps life exciting and what makes my career more rewarding and fulfilling.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just moved to LA, so if anybody needs a good itinerary that’s me! I still don’t know the city very well but I will try my best. In the morning I would grab coffee at Obet & Del’s and lunch or dinner at La Bohéme in West Hollywood. For drinks I would go to either Chest Park Lounge in Glendale or The Fat Dog in NoHo.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, who’s always been my biggest supporter, as well as to the amazing musicians and creatives that I get to work with on a daily basis, whom I admire and always learn from.
