Meet Sheena Langub | Botanical Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheena Langub and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheena, what do you attribute your success to?
Rooted Harmony has benefited greatly from the love and support of my family and friends. And ultimately, its success is derived from my story. Because my story makes Rooted Harmony more than just a business, it is who I am.
Art always surrounded me. I was exposed to the art of both gardening and music. My parents had full-time occupations and artistry in our home was used as a form of self-care. My mother always nurtured and cared for her garden, and my father used the art of music as a method of healing and expression. The art of floral designing became my own method of expression. Borrowing from nature and showcasing God’s most beautiful creations is an important factor to my success as an artist and designer.
My journey of becoming a botanical artist helped me realize that my floral designs served a purpose. Before starting a business, my craft with flowers was something I discovered in my mother’s garden. Witnessing the colors, patterns, and anatomy of every flower and leaf became an obsession, that later transformed into a great passion of mine. I found myself fascinated with nature and loved watching things grow.
During high school. I received a job as a salesclerk at a local flower shop. I even took a course in botany and later ventured into teaching myself the basics of floral designing. For over ten years, I pursued a career in teaching and simultaneously served a role as florist to close family and friends. As my last blossoming stage of becoming a botanical artist, I combined my passions in teaching and designing to fully establish Rooted Harmony.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a botanical artist who specializes in floral design and education. My professional interests include weddings, personalized arrangements, corporate events, and art installations. The use of fresh and preserved flowers and foliage are my preferred medium, but I find joy in working with all earthly elements. Along with arranging decorative displays, I also present several botanical workshops that allow my participants to engage in the care and design of creating with both plants and flowers.
The effort in promoting and advertising for our brand and services are some of my biggest challenges. Creating content and gathering material sometimes takes away from being creative and requires more effort and time. However, being able to separate my business approach and creative mindset has really helped me grow in new directions. When creating content for advertising, I gain better knowledge about my audience and begin to sharpen and refine my purpose of designing.
As for the role in designing and being creative, I have the privilege of sharing my story and educating others about all the joy and happiness the botanical world can offer. Floral arrangements are tangible items that can be easily marketed, but the experiences in forming relationships is what leaves an everlasting impression for myself and my clients.
I am committed to providing a service that goes beyond arrangements and design, to actually help others reveal their sincere thoughts and feelings through the language of flowers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My definition of a good time is surrounding myself with LA’s hidden nature spots and anything botanical. My first favorite destination is the Huntington Library, Art Museum, & Botanical Gardens which I believe is one of the most glorious outdoor gardens in LA. I also love to visit the restaurant, Poppy + Rose, located in the heart of the Los Angeles Flower District. It has quickly became a favorite for breakfast, brunch, and lunch for DTLA locals and visitors alike. After a refreshing meal I go straight to the Flower Market and fully immerse myself in all the fresh flowers and indoor plants!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My path to success is comparable to a flower’s structure. My parents are the hands that planted the seed of humility and passion in me. The effort, support, and mentorship that my family and friends have provided have given my stem and leaves their strength and motivation. Most importantly, my source of inspiration and my ability to be in full bloom comes from the partnership and encouragement of my husband.
I owe most of my success and recognition to my husband because he has inspired me to pursue my dream in being a florist. Although he is committed to his own professional career and is a dedicated father to our two sons, his love and support has truly been a true testament to why Rooted Harmony has blossomed the way it has, and continues to do so. He has encouraged me to host my first workshop, prepare for market events and floral shows, further my knowledge about the different genres of floral design, and has heavily promoted my floral services to trusted clients. He has been such a dream pusher and motivator in my long years of being a florist. And for that, I strive to give and be my very best. I am forever grateful for my husband’s unconditional love and endless support.
