We had the good fortune of connecting with Darryl Fitzgerald Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darryl Fitzgerald, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business, was driven by the innate desire to honor my gift of song.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in providing studio and live vocal and saxophone performances as well as original compositions. I believe a few of the elements which sets me apart from others, are: 1. My vocal range
2. The sincerity and depth of my performance delivery (the key for connection to other souls..
3. The styles of music I record (R&B, Jazz, Soul, Blues).

I am most proud of the musical peers with which I associate, all incredibly talented and gracious individuals too numerous to mention.

The journey to the current state of my career was NOT an easy one; a number of unsavory record deals, unscrupulous business people, and related politics nearly influenced me to leave the music industry.

The experiences and lessons learned along the way enabled me to leverage my core strengths, (to overcome challenges) associate with like-minded people who also believe in truly advocating for and helping one another. In this game of “show business” it is of paramount importance to avoid the traps/pitfalls to which the unwary sorts succumb.

In particular, I learned to:
1. Always be prepared!
2. Waste no one’s time!
3. Establish and value TRUE friendships and working relationships!
4. Be early to appointments, rehearsals, shows!
5. Treat peers, fans, associates and anyone affiliated with me and anything I do (professionally or personally) with dignity and respect!
6. Continue to learn and hone my craft through whatever vehicle or means necessary (we can’t master music in one lifetime but we can work toward being the best we can be)!

I’d like people to know my music/brand is ethical and based on creating and delivering authentically performed pieces, the same as the best recordings in the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I’m a chef (at home) I really appreciate a great gastronomic experience! I would take my guest(s) to my favorite restaurants in the Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, and San Diego Gaslamp areas such as: 1. Pamplemouse Grill
2. Mr. A’s
3. Mille Fleur
4. Morton’s Steakhouse
5. Fleming’s Steakhouse

We’d also check for any local Jazz performances or theatrical productions available in the area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dedicated to the creative genius of my wife LeiLani Walker
