Meet the Cold Culture

We had the good fortune of connecting with the Cold Culture and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cold Culture, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Running a band is a lot like running a business. A lot of people tend to think a band is a group of people who are doing something as a hobby. To some degree or for some people it may be just that but for us, it was about taking our passion and turning it into something real. Our thought process behind starting Cold Culture was to take our passion for music to the next level and bringing our own creativity to life. Since starting the band in 2016, we have successfully played shows throughout southern California, went on tour along the west coast, released over 7 singles with more to release late this year, put out an album, and an EP. This would have not been possible without proper scheduling, dedication, and hours of countless work. Not only do we have to balance our daily lives like work, college, family life, personal life, but we have had to find a balance to make sure we carved out enough time to make this band a possibility. Without the dedication and the want to be successful in music none of this would have been possible.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cold Culture is a West Coast Emo band. The reason why we call ourselves “West Coast Emo” is due to our influences from Midwest Emo, Modern Indie Alternative, and 00’s Pop Punk music. While some may consider us a Midwest Emo/Pop Punk band, we are not from the Midwest so that’s were the “West Coast” part came from. Another fun fact is we have a mascot named Floyd who is a little penguin holding a beverage. Mascots aren’t really used anymore so it is cool to have a distinct character that people remember. We have also been told our sound is very nostalgic with a current twist since the release of our debut album “Functioning in Society”. However, seeing us in a live setting brings it to a whole new level or so we have been told. You can’t match the energy we bring on stage to a recording.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week long trip?! We just did that along the west coast!! While we could be cliché and say “we would take our friends to the beach or Disneyland” sorry bud that’s not quite happening. There is a lot to do in southern California especially in the Los Angeles county area. We would definitely have to take them to a local brewery or two like Last Name Brewing to catch a good live show while we enjoy a delicious cold beer. Another option would be the Pomona Art Walk that happens every second Saturday of the month. Art Walk Night is a great place to support local art vendors and catch some of the best talented local music around.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to shoutout Jonathan Mireles (Audio Mech Productions). He has been not only a great friend since the start of the band but he made every song/idea we have had come to life. We also want to shoutout every fan/follower along our journey. We have some very dedicated people who show up to shows and sing along to our songs and we hope that you know it means the world to us.
