We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Stein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I believe that our drone light shows make the world a more beautiful place. Drone shows are essentially aerial animations, an art form that fills the sky and captivates crowds of thousands or even millions that can share the same experience together. Think of each drone as a pixel, and the more drones or pixels you have in your show the more detailed and dynamic the animation can be. As this technology evolves and we master the craft, the more mind bending and creative we can get with this art form.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe that one of my unique traits is the bridging of the right and left brain, combining technical and creative thinking. However, as we enter the Experience Age I feel like this trait is becoming more common with how far technology has evolved during the Digital Age. I have a degree in chemical engineering and the rules and regulations that go along with being a drone pilot are also very technical. And yet, I consider myself an artist. My trick is to use powerful technology in a technical field like aviation to make art.

I would like to mention that it was no easy feat making it to where I am today. Drone Studios is my third start-up and it was a very arduous road full of high amplitude ups & downs, hard realizations, hard work and resilience to create this entity. I’m still learning everyday and I am committed to perpetual growth both personally and professionally. I have applied everything I have learned over the years, and poured my heart and soul into this business so that it grows and inspires anyone and everyone it touches.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would strongly suggest a hike down to Blacks Beach from La Jolla Gliderport. This is by far the best outdoor experience you can have in San Diego on any given day. Just be careful because the north side of the beach is fully nude. After the beach, I would recommend grabbing dinner somewhere in downtown San Diego and experiencing Little Italy and 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp. Some other very cool features of downtown San Diego are the USS Midway Museum and I would check the schedule for the new outdoor waterfront amphitheater “The Rady Shell” which is absolutely stunning.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I know this sounds cliche, but without question my shoutout goes to my friends, family and my forever muse Iry. Without their love, support, contribution and constructive criticism Drone Studios would have never made it to where it is today. The major contributors to my success are definitely Matt Boyer, KC Daters, Mike Short, Janna & Gary Stein and Iry.
