Meet Trasina Diazmuñoz | Surreal landscape photographer & designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trasina Diazmuñoz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trasina, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had recently moved to Washington in early 2019 to pursue a career in photography. I worked at various photography studios in the area I was in, however I quickly found out I did not like that type of lifestyle. At first it felt weird because here I was, a photographer in the pnw but I wasn’t happy. To me, the jobs felt very corporate from the get go, and I just craved more creative freedom. I would get home after working this draining job in the city and I kept going back to edit photos from this amazing road trip me and my boyfriend did after we graduated college. We drove from Montana to Nevada to Illinois making stops along the way, so I was able to photograph all of these amazing views & we got to visit some national parks on the way. So, I’m editing photos from the trip and I felt the pull to get up, lay on the floor and listen to my favorite guided meditation at the time. So I did just that, and there was a part of the meditation in which it’s just silent witch some frequencies going and I started to see a purple dot and after I saw an image I took of the road in Utah, with a St. Helen’s which I had just summited that weekend in WA at the very end of the road with a watercolor moon that I had drawn earlier that week. It felt crazy seeing all these elements combined but I knew I had to bring it to the physical so I did and Radical Realms was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The surreal collages I create are different from your everyday digital and “cut-out” in the sense that I photograph every single element you see in the finished product. A thing I really love about putting this art out there is that people can connect to a collage, especially if they have been to that national park, etc. it brings them back to their own memory. One of my favorite customer moments was when a couple was looking at a certain realm and after I told them where all elements were photographed, WA, UT, IL & CA they were flabbergasted because they had lived in all of those states and just moved to WA so I thought that was a pretty cool way of someone connecting with not only my art and nature but in a way themselves. I got where I am today by my love for what I do, the support of my friends and family and really just putting one foot in front of the other. I think one of my greatest challenges in pursuing this was the capitalist part of it all. I had always done art just for myself and putting it out there in the market where it can feel over-saturated was a little scary at first but I also learned that there is space for everyone. I’ve also learned that not everything is going to be linear, from creative ideas to sales to how often I’m putting content in socials, and that is ok. I would want them to know that no matter where you come from, where you are or who you are, you can always find your identity. My art is a manifestation of parts of who I am.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well, I definitely would not be here if it wasn’t for my parents, they have always been very encouraging in terms of me pursuing whatever I was passionate about and to truly follow my dream, because life is meant to be enjoyed. I can’t talk about Radical Realms without giving a shoutout to my partner David, he has been there from day one, going with me to markets helping me set up, from the canopy to hanging my clothing designs on racks to taking it all down. He has always supported me and my dream and for that I’m super grateful. I also would like to shout out, my lovely mentor & friend, Ishita Bhama. She has helped my spiritual journey tremendously and has changed my life for the better.
