Our city is home to so many incredible businesses and so we asked the founders how they came up with the ideas for their businesses and have shared their responses below.
Abundance of Youth was an idea envisioned back in the summer of 2021 in San Diego, by two neighbors/bestfriends Noun Abdelaziz and Fatuma Fadhil (Uma) after attending a local gallery event organized by another known creative in the city. Fatuma and Noun sat outside the gallery at the end of the event and asked each other, “why don’t we do something like this? Just bigger, and more inclusive?”. In that moment that paused and asked each other to say the first word that came to mind. Noun shouted “abundance” and fatuma shouted “youth”. And that was the beginning of the Abundance of Youth. Self Love Club started in 2017, with one member (me), during my journey of self-discovery and healing. After my dad passed in 2016, I started going to therapy to help with grieving and practicing self-care. “Self Love Club” was a mantra I would repeat to myself. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned how important it is to accept yourself. I began to love myself, flaws and all, and my life began to change. I did not know when I started that I was essentially creating a business. It started off as a hobby then eventually turned into my passion. I always struggled with social anxiety so I stayed to myself a lot. But I also did not like feeling alone. So, I would watch YouTube videos. I started to watch YouTube so much that there was not any more videos to watch. That was when I decided to pick up a camera, hit record, start talking to it and upload my own videos to Youtube.
