Meet Zia Rohrbaugh | CrossFit Gym Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zia Rohrbaugh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to own my own business to have more control over my possibilities. I have owned my business for 13 years, and although it was not always the easier option- definitely the most rewarding. I am passionate about CrossFit. Being able to combine my love for the sport with my job is unbelievably rewarding. Before owning my own gym, I worked for someone else as a coach. I always thought I could do this- but better. With an accounting background i knew I could achieve it. As a successful business owner, I would never go back to working for someone ever again

What should our readers know about your business?
CrossFit Counter Culture is like no other gym. We get excited about things most people avoid. We work-out hard, harder than we ever thought possible. We workout with intensity and purpose. We strive for all victories, large & small. Five more pounds… two seconds faster… one more rep. These are the reasons we come in day after day and do the things we do. That why you join, but you stay for the community. Our members are like family. Achieving 13 years in business took constant planning, and changing that plan. It was not always easy. I definitely make some mistakes along the way. Realizing i made a mistake and quickly admitting it and changing it was key to being able to move past it. I know CrossFit Counter Culture has a superior program, facility, and staff. We hold ourselves to strict standards to better serve our community. Our gym is perfect for any skill level. The CrossFit program focuses on broad, general, and inclusive fitness. It utilizes constantly varied, high intensity, functional movements to achieve optimal results. The program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect workout for any committed individual regardless of experience and can accommodate for injuries and rehabilitation.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have friends in town I like to take them to all my favorite places. We would go down to La Jolla to paddle board the caves and walk downtown La Jolla, For food, Craftman Tavern in Encinitas for sure. My favorite place hands down. Living in Encinitas, I would also take them to seaside market for Cardiff crack.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t have built the community I have with out the members themselves. I have the the most supportive, caring, and dedicated community of athletes anyone could ask for. Without them, CrossFit Counter culture wouldn’t be what it is today.
