We had the good fortune of connecting with Zeina Marrush and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zeina, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is saying yes to myself. No one will give you permission if you do not give it to yourself. If you lack confidence, if you doubt yourself, others will feel it and will want to keep you safe by convincing you not to go after what you want. People get behind you when you are behind yourself and your dreams. And if they aren’t right now, they will when they see the success begin to roll in. The reason the success rolled in is because you said yes to yourself and chose to believe in yourself – despite the odds and the circumstances. The worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life is when I said no to myself. I didn’t listen to myself. I trusted someone else to save me instead of listening to my intuition. Essentially, I gave my power away to another person. Saying yes to yourself doesn’t mean the journey will be inherently easy. It just means that no matter what, you’ll be OK. Saying yes to yourself means speaking up and standing up for yourself – no matter what! It means implementing boundaries and maintaining them! It means you control your narrative. You don’t let someone else define you or tell you who you are. Your voice is one of the most powerful tools you have. Speak up and say yes to yourself!
What should our readers know about your business?
I work with women going through break-ups, or having difficulty moving on from a past relationship. I help them move through and beyond the pain and disillusion so they receive the closure they need in order to get over him for good. My background is relationships & dating, and my focus is empowerment. I’m unique in that I overlap where the two intersect. This healing work is so important because it leads you back to who you truly are, long before your very first heartbreak and rejection tried to define you and your worth. We create false meanings out of heartbreak and rejection, such as “I’m not good enough.” The meanings become part of your identity, and then you live this identity through a false paradigm that reflects back, “I’m not good enough,” or whatever false belief you’ve taken on. The healing work is to dismantle these false beliefs! This is everything I wish I had when my ex broke up with me and got married 20 days later. There was nothing on the market to guide me through the healing process AND empower me to rebuild my life on my own terms at the same time. I like to say I’m the last coach you’ll ever need. I love helping my clients learn how to communicate effectively and confidently. Boundaries are my jam – I’m so passionate about how strong boundaries will change your life. Boundaries are not barriers – they help others feel safe by knowing who you are, what you value and what to expect from you. The healed version of you walks away from what the insecure version of you would’ve chased. The hardest part of getting my business to where it is today was authentically nailing down my brand voice and messaging. Brand messaging and voice comes down to speaking to one specific ideal client and letting that person know I’m the one for them. It took a lot of trial and error to see how words and messages resonate with my ideal client, while still ensuring it sounds like me. Once I really felt confident in my messaging, what my brand voice sounds like, and what I wanted my brand to represent, things really picked up from there. People know when you’re being authentic and when you’re not.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love this question! In addition to my business, I have a separate travel podcast with my travel squad. It’s called Travel Squad Podcast. We recorded an episode of the top 13 things to do in San Diego including (not limited to or in any order): Coronado Island, Mount Soledad, Cabrillo Monument, San Diego Zoo, Torrey Pines, brunch in Hillcrest at Moe’s. I also love to hike, so if you’re feeling adventurous. I’d say let’s go do the El Capitan hike out in Lemongrove which is a 12 mile roundtrip hike. The Travel Squad Podcast also has an episode of the best San Diego hikes! I love taco Tuesday at the Brig! I also love the unlimited mimosa brunch at Humphreys by the Bay on Sunday morning. When I first moved to San Diego 10 years ago, I spent every weekend on Coronado Island tanning, and walking along the beach in the evening. One of my favorite restaurants is D.Z. Akins, and I always order the Reuben. That’s a super popular place that I love to take my visiting guests to.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m so grateful for the coaches I’ve worked with and continue to work with. They have held the space for me to shift and evolve into who I am today and who I continue to become. Major shout out to Jennica Mills who I found when I needed her the most. She has held so much space for me to help me heal from so many things from my past. I couldn’t be more grateful to her as a coach and friend. Sharna Langlais, my Reiki Master who has held so much space for me to develop my intuitive gifts and have a mentor to speak to about such things. Emily Williams of I Heart my Life who is just the most amazing business coach. She always called out my excuses and holds me to a higher standard that at times I haven’t been able to see. There are so many more women that I can think of that have supported me: Leah Gervais, Kim Pendleton, Sara Anna Powers, Kim Deese, Brittanie Harbick, Nicole Gallego. In addition, last but definitely not least, my brother Jamal. It’s so important to surround yourself with people who are doing what you want to do or have achieved what you’re after. People want to support you! Allow yourself to receive the support and say yes to yourself!
