Meet Veronica Herrera | Mother & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Veronica Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Veronica, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important thing I’ve done as a parent is to model how to be a good human. I want my children to grow up and be happy about the decisions they have made. I want them to be proud of themselves as well as me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my attention to small details. In photography it can be challenging to get genuine smiles, nobody wants a forced or uncomfortable smile in their portrait. I still have a lot to learn, I believe there’s always room for improvement or growth. One challenge I currently face is standing out from all the others. How do I make my photos speak to my audience? What are my strengths in photography that make someone choose me? These are moments captured for a life time and they need to be special. The most important lesson I’ve learned is to be consistent with my editing and social media marketing. As a busy homeschooling mom of 4 keeping up on my social media can be an unwanted chore. I want the world to know that the photos I take are going to be lifelong memories that they will cherish and pass down for generations to come.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would plan 2 days visiting Balboa Park, it’s one of my favorite places in all of San Diego. Personally, I love the architectural work there. I notice something new with every visit. And it’s a great spot for photography. There’s so many beautiful spots around every corner. After that I would plan an all day excursion in Old Town. You really can’t go wrong there, they have a few museums, beautiful historic landmarks, and come on, the food is everything! My family’s personal favorite restaurant is Old Town Mexican Café. They have one of the best homemade fresh flour tortillas. One of my favorite cafe shops to visit is in my neighborhood, Pink Rose Cafe in La Mesa. I love their avocado toast, it’s delish. From there we’d stroll to one of La Mesa’s hidden stairs & take cute pictures for the gram. Of course a trip to the beach is always a must. I don’t have a favorite but if I wanted to have a great time I’d go to Mission Bay and make a stop at Belmont Park. I obviously have a love of the arts so spending an afternoon at Chicano Park is a no brainer. Going to The San Diego Zoo or Safari Park is a family favorite, you get outdoors, see animals learn about conservation practices, its a win-win.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to give my dad a shout out, Edward Barrios. My dad was the first person to introduce photography to me. His love of photography has been passed down to me. I also want to thank Chrystal Cienfuegos for reigniting my passion of photography that was lost in my early adulthood.
