We had the good fortune of connecting with Velour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Velour, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music has a been important throughout our lives. We all started as fans then gravitated towards our instruments. Writing songs and playing them live for an audience is a thrill like no other and is still the driving force behind the band. If we were a cover band, I doubt we would have stayed together this long!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Velour is a guitar based rock band. The lineup includes Steve Haslem (guitar and vocals), Steve Atteberry (drums), James Morketter (guitar), and Tony Ciulla (bass). We make music we enjoy playing for a live audience and continue to grow our fan base. We released our first EP Right On Time for Being Late in 2017. We’re excited about the new songs we’re working on and hope to have a new album out by early next year. The secret to our longevity is having a similar sense of humor and not taking ourselves too seriously.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Any trip to San Diego would involve a visit to the beach. While in Ocean Beach, stop by The Holding Company for live music and the kimchi fried rice. Balboa Park is also an amazing resource and right next to the zoo. There many microbreweries in San Diego, and anytime out of town visitors come, they are great casual places to hang out. A trip to Salud! In Barrio Logan for tacos is also a way to introduce visitors to local flavors and culture.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our friends and family have been especially helpful and supportive. They are the ones who make the effort to come out to our shows. We’re also appreciative of the venues that have invited us. It’s also nice when we can help support small businesses like Deft Brewery, which has been a great place to play.
