Meet UrbanRoyalty | Singer, Songwriter, Rapper, Producer, Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with UrbanRoyalty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi UrbanRoyalty, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks are a major play in any creatives life. You have to stretch yourself to new heights and be comfortable with being uncomfortable, change is inevitable. How will you truly know your power? A risk is betting all on you and being all in. Standing on your true capabilities. Walk alone. We live in a era and a city where the common sound gets you recognition. A risk is saying “Im stepping away from what everyone else is doing”. A risk is getting a knock on your door saying you have 30 days left in that place your staying. A risk is sleeping on your cousins floor. A risk is spending that little bit left on your passion. Turn your passion into profit. People get comfortable. Comfortable in the sound, comfortable in the 9-5, comfortable in the day to day lifestyle. What do you do when your backs against the wall? We all know people who can milk the excuses and turn their plan B into their “success” story. A risk is saying their is no plan B. Im dying on this dream. Embrace the risks, give yourself a chance to fail. My first time in LA on my own for songwriting, nobody hit me back. I was working a regular job and left at the opportunity to write for a specific artist. My old catalogue fit the sounds that the specific artist was looking for and when I was there I got no call back, no file, no anything. I built my catalogue and now work with top artists/groups today. Risks is making that call, making that connection, reaching out to that person. Experiment. I been writing a song a day for 6 years. different styles, tonalities, phrases, influence. To all creatives whether that’s in this city or out. Never be afraid to try things new, the RnB scene in the city is a breath of fresh air, the rap scene is cool but this new wave of SDRNB we created is where its at. Risks teach you real lessons and shows you who you really are. It’s a road less traveled. Everyone has a chapter of adversity. My risks got me my placements, my risks got me my name. A lot of long nights and short days, I know what it feels like to be the hidden gem that’s overlooked. My fan base sold out the merchandise, my fanbase got me on Soundcloud charts before I even had instagram. I was born with a hearing problem. My PASSION is my risk. I walked away from situations that benefitted me because of disrespect and all I can do IS to bet on me. Take a jump. Who cares if you land. If you fall, get up and do it again and if you make it. set the bar higher and do it again. Repeat that process. Some don’t have a sink or swim mentality, it would have been easy for my career to be “that” artist. Im working on changing the space. Im in competition with. self and i’m not afraid to walk alone if I have to. “Elevation requires separation”. For anyone who’s against. Bet against me because i’m coming for all of it. My payouts better!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a the dark RnB genre. I get it, everyone makes music and the thing that sets me out from the rest…if your looking for a Southeast local different sound. That night drive, sneaky link, sexy sound. The smooth King. I love the seduction sounds and waves the night brings. Our city has a west coast grungy bounce that has been manipulated 10x over. The theme and term “Daygo” has a sound that I personally want to branch out of. Im excited for what 2022 brings. I have my 2nd album coming and I cant say much but a lot of peoples favorite songs that will be coming out, im excited for people to read the credits. The road wasn’t easy, and to this day I think if your not that “Daygo” type its gonna be a lot more difficult to navigate because we became so accustom to what “sound” we have. My path was a lot longer definately I reached out to different places first and established a name through sending music and packs to managers, producers, artists and worked my way inside and out. I went viral 2017 off of a remix of “Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares” (RIP X) with streams over 95k until I got a letter for removal. Took a 2 year hiatus to learn the business and develop skills as a producer and sharpen the sounds you hear today. A lot of buzz came from Eric Bellinger posting me and my friend (Jawburr) who is a Youtube streamer having me and PARTYNEXTDOOR in the same game lobbies. The success and connections came from those long nights of just relentlessness. I remember while creating I wasn’t eating, sleeping for days to a point of just collapsing. I was just a child creating in my family house and it turned into my life. It was a challenge earning my respect for sure, because again I was humble and didn’t fit into the type that we are accustom to. EVERYONE has a motive and the anxiety of knowing who’s there for you is real. People use and manipulate you and your talents for personal gain. The stories are deep out here. To those after me, the blueprint exists. Create your own lane the minute you see something that’s not for you. Theres only 1 you. Add to the canvas and leave your mark. My brand. Urban is another name for the “inner city” we all know what that means. As a black man. My skin is Royalty and I hold myself as a King. UrbanRoyalty isn’t just a name. They way my supporters carry themselves, when we see each other, times we mobbed areas together a King or a Queen is a feeling within, The name is a location next to a title, a Black King. Together. A REAL Movement

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Coronado to have seafood over the water. Cant skip some BBQ from Coops. Family dinner because as much funds it is to go out, my family is a full package deal of fun and food. Drinks downtown and im a huge art lover and was an actor before so Balboa and soak in the museums, art and architecture. Drive down the 805 for a night ride. Southbay drive in for a small intimate movie. Din Tai Fung dumplings 10/10! Im more of a vibe person so it really depends on what type of vibe they are looking for
