We had the good fortune of connecting with Trudy Kranz Whitney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trudy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I have had an entrepreneur mindset since my early days in college. I was the President of a chocolate company Pandora’s Confections when I was in my late thirties. Now, I am the CEO of my own Real Estate Company, Trudy’s Coastal Properties. It was a natural progression and one that I am so happy about. San Diego is where I was born and raised and I love selling Real Estate here.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Professionally I am always striving to exceed my clients goals and anticipate their needs for a truly smooth and effortless Real Estate transaction. Making my clients happy is my number one priority and my clients know that from the start. Family is also very important to me and I feel that being five of seven children was a most unique experience that helped me with my understanding and compassion for helping others in everything I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends were visiting I would first take them in the morning to the beach in Cardiff by the Sea, San Elijo for a walk to Seaside in Solana Beach and back. We would go to the 101 Diner and see Christa for the best benedicts in town. We would go to the Rancho Coastal Thrift store for some great used nuggets and Jo would give my dog George some treats. After that a stop at the Best-a-Wan to see Megan and have some lunch.  And a trip to VG’s Donuts to bring home to the grands.

At some point I would suggest a coffee at the old train station in Leucadia, the Pannikin. Then a trip to see Fred at Caldwell’s antiques for some of his many treasures. After that a trip to the flower fields in Carlsbad where the reuniclus splash the hillside with rainbows of color. And Happy Hour at Le Papagayo would be a must, it’s walking distance from my home in Leucadia.

No visit is complete without a trip to the Belly Up for a great show but first stopping for some bites at Fish 101 in Cardiff on our way to the venue in Solana Beach.

And after the show it’s such a beautiful night, plus the grunion are running so we are headed to Moonlight Beach to see this amazing show of spawning fish. We live in paradise and I never let a day go by without recognizing that and living every wonderful moment to the fullest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would like to give a shout out to Ron “Rusty” Martin who was my coach in high school. He owned Sunshine Gardens in Encinitas for over 50 years, but still made time to Coach. Rusty along with my Dad, Coach Kranz. taught me so much about being present and helping coach and inspire others. I have always been grateful for their early guidance. I also have very special friends that I call my “booty crew” who have been with me every step of the way and I am very grateful for them as well.
