Meet Trinity Thompson | Mortgage Loan Officer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trinity Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trinity, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
From the time I was around 8 years old, out of necessity, I have always hustled and found a way to make money. Even when I graduated college I immediately dove head first into my work. I was putting in 70 hour weeks every week. When covid hit, I was forced to slow down and take time off. This was when I realized how much life I had missed out on in my 20’s. I missed time with my family and friends. I missed once in a life time trips when my dream was to travel. And I regularly missed those small moments with those closest to me. I wasn’t happy with my work life balance and it was time for me to explore other options. So I became my own boss and started my mortgage business. Now, I can plan around my families activities, I can take a day off when I need, I can take a vacation without feeling guilty or worried my employer will hold it against me. I can thoroughly enjoy my life on my terms. Finding a successful work/life balance has changed my life and my mental health forever and I am grateful every day for it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My first career was in veterinary medicine and as much as I loved it, something was missing. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do, but I knew it would be running my own business of some sort. So I made one of the hardest decisions of my life and I quit my job and took some time off to find myself in a way. During this time I ended up getting recruited into mortgage lending by a big bank. I really love real estate so I just figured, why not?! My very first client ended up being a disabled Vietnam veteran and priest, who had been scammed out of all his savings and his home was being foreclosed on. I knew that I needed to help him and sure enough, I was able to refinance him and save his home. This being my first ever transaction was a sign from the universe that this is what I am meant to do. Since then, I have put my all into making sure my business is successful. It has not been easy by any means and there have been times where things don’t go as planned. Things that make you question if it’s worth it, but if it were easy, everyone would do it. What I always remind people is that there isn’t a single successful person out there that hasn’t made a mistake. In the real estate industry you learn mostly by being in the field and just doing it. There isn’t a text book on how this business works because there are so many ways to be successful in real estate. It is all about trial and error which means you will make mistakes. You have to let those mistakes help build you up, not tear you down. Remember, success doesn’t come from a one-size-fits-all approach. That’s why I lead with integrity, tailoring every experience with honesty, transparency, and the expertise to get the job done right and continue to grow. Each day, I wake up motivated to help more people reach their real estate goals and that’s what makes every challenge worthwhile.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes to visit me here in San Diego, it always looks a little different because there is so much to see and never enough time. But a great trip would start with stopping at my favorite burger spot to fuel up after a long travel day to The Friendly Tavern in North park. There is nothing better than an OG dirty flat top! During the trip you have to whip out the bathing suits and head to the beach. It could be a gorgeous relaxing day at the beaches in La Jolla or Del Mar, or a little boardwalk stroll and some cocktails in pacific beach, you really cant go wrong with any beach! And a beach day isn’t complete without a Bronx Pizza to enjoy while you play in the sun. Our next stop would have to be the zoo! As animal lovers, we could spent several days at the zoo, especially since the pandas are back! They are my favorite. Then you have to take a trip out to Julian for a beautiful hike to the Three Sisters Falls and grab an apple pie at the famous Julian Pie Company. We would also have to squeeze in a day trip to the new Gaylord Resort for a day of lounging in the lazy river and follow that up with a night of speakeasy hopping! Lastly we would have to stop for some amazing food in Little Italy for some pasta before she departs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Randa Dehaan is an associate of mine who has helped me tremendously with my business. Randa believed in me when I wasn’t so sure myself. She encouraged me to keep going when I was let down time and time again by others in our industry. She has opened doors for me that I may have never even had the chance to look at if it wasn’t for her. There aren’t words to describe how grateful I am for Randa and the unconditional support she has shown me.
