We had the good fortune of connecting with Tricia Smith-Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tricia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success would be heart! Every piece of art that I make comes from my heart! I truly do feel that art can heal and my hope is that each piece finds a home where it can help heal or bring happiness to all that see it!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always knew being creative and helping others aspire to their true potential was my gift but had no idea where those paths would take me.
I became an esthetician at age 21 and loved helping other’s achieve their skin goals. I realized that make-up was a big reason why many were having skin issues so I became a make-up artist. I worked closely with companies that shared my same passion of helping others look and feel their best. I then became a make-up artist for the stars on varies tv shows and movies. Fast forward 10 yrs, married with three boys, I knew that kind of work was just not going to be possible anymore but once an artist always an artist. I began painting on canvases instead of faces and exploring other mediums! I loved the way that Epoxy looked on beautiful pieces of wood so I dove right in and the response I received after just a few pieces, I realized this was my new path in helping others heal and reach their true potential. My art pieces are very unique to our beach town we call home, Carlsbad. I started making tables with oceans scene using epoxy, it became very therapeutic for me and for those that buy my art. I wanted to make sure that even in the dark that my art pieces can still inspire, comfort those around it so every piece glows in the dark! It becomes a whole new piece of art to look at, like bioluminescent waves crashing on the beach. My hope is that my art reminds you that you are enough, you do matter and you can do anything you put your mind too!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to downtown Carlsbad the true heart of our community! I would introduce her to all the amazing restaurants and locally owned shops! We would collect sea shells for my art at the local beach’s and visit the out of this flower fields. We would take our kids to Legoland and of course a Padres baseball game!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my wonderful husband, our three wild but sweet boys and our dog Jax! Who have always believed in me and encourage me to keep going on my journey as an artist! Follow your heart and you will never go wrong.
