We had the good fortune of connecting with Tricia Battani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tricia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally:

Tricia:
Music’s been the heartbeat of my life since day one.  Being raised in a musical family not only ignited a profound passion in me but provided endless education, training, and exposure to sophisticated music, which I’ll forever be grateful for.

I was surrounded by greatness.  My parents were both celebrated musicians inducted into the Iowa Music Hall of Fame for their incredible abilities and contributions – my mother; a singer, and my father; a jazz drummer and band director.  My sister was a musical theatre prodigy, and my brother a drummer.  As the youngest, I caught on quickly and was singing, dancing and in love with music by age 3.

Growing up, life was immersed in band camps, choir competitions, dance competitions, drumline corps, marching band practices, theatre performances, and talent shows. I fell in love with R&B and Pop music, hip hop dancing, and performing in elementary school.  I quickly discovered that dancing and singing healed and provided a release for me that I couldn’t explain.  I wanted to share it with anyone and everyone who would listen, watch or join.

I dedicated myself to honing my craft, from childhood through my teenage years.  I recorded myself daily – practicing singing runs, belting, stacking vocals, doing ad libs, matching tones, and giving emotion.  I was preparing for my move to LA after high school.

I daydreamed constantly about getting to spend my life using my voice – I wanted to give back to the art form that saved me.  It was always on my mind and, clearly, there was no other road for me.

What keeps you busy professionally?

My partner, PK, and I write and produce songs for Kpop and Jpop superstars, TV/film, movie trailers, and signed and emerging independent artists.  We have songs on artists such as aespa, Giselle, ITZY, TNX, Kiss of Life, Shinjiro Atae, and many more I’m not allowed to mention quite yet!

It’s a dream that this is my life, because my favorite place to be in the whole world is the studio.  It’s a safe space for me that prioritizes the authentic essence of my voice above all else.  I love that I’m not being watched or judged physically – that it’s simply about my voice and performance.  When I chose this path, I never necessarily wanted to be seen; I wanted to be heard and felt.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Disneyland, Universal Studios, Universal Horror Nights, skating at Moonlit Rollerway, Amoeba Records, SkyZone, hip hop dance class by Kennis Marquis at Mihran K. Studios in Burbank, Studio Sushi, shakes from Kreation Organic Juicery, a vanilla malt from Mel’s Diner, and steaks from Ruth’s Chris.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My musical journey has been shaped by the support and inspiration of so many – God, my family, PK, my best friends, Amplified, Victorious Mgmt, Grant Jacobson, Steve Octave, Kay Kim, my favorite artists and songwriters, a couple former bosses, my peers and co-writers who have been pillars of encouragement.  In addition, I draw inspiration from speakers and healers such as Joyce Meyer, Tyler Henry, and Kim Russo.

I’m deeply grateful to my late brother, Nick Battani, whose guidance and inspiration continue to shape my career choices and propel me into my dreams, over and over.  His brilliant advice, humble heart, sense of humor, evolved mindset, and deep, meaningful words of wisdom are my roadmap.  Thank you, Nicky – I love you forever.
