We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Travis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After gaining extensive experience working with various brands and companies, I recognized that my approach to haircutting, encapsulated in my curriculum Hairdressing Made Easy, offered a unique and effective methodology. This proprietary system, which simplifies and streamlines the haircutting process, became the foundation upon which I wanted to build my own company. I realized that my deep expertise and innovative approach to teaching haircutting not only set me apart but also provided a strong basis for creating a business that could offer a distinct value to the industry.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has been shaped by a relentless work ethic and the ability to adapt when things don’t go as planned. I believe that anything of great value requires significant effort and resilience, and I take immense pride in my commitment to these principles.
What sets me apart is my dedication to both my craft and the people I work with. I’ve always been driven by a passion for hairdressing as an art form and a desire to share my knowledge with others. My journey hasn’t been easy—every achievement has come with its own set of challenges. However, overcoming these obstacles has been a crucial part of my growth. I’ve learned that persistence and adaptability are key to navigating the ups and downs of a career.
I am most proud of my ability to stay committed and push forward, regardless of the difficulties I face. My journey has been marked by numerous sacrifices, but I see these as part of my commitment to what I love. I’m excited about the opportunities to continue evolving, creating, and helping others achieve their dreams.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my story is one of passion, perseverance, and a continuous drive for excellence. I’m dedicated to turning challenges into opportunities and using my skills and experiences to inspire and empower others in their own journeys.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting North County San Diego for a week, I’d plan an unforgettable trip starting with La Jolla. We’d begin by taking a leisurely stroll along the stunning La Jolla Cove, which offers breathtaking views and unique topography. For lunch, we’d enjoy delicious Italian cuisine at Marisi, followed by a relaxing drink at The Whaling Bar. In the afternoon, we could explore La Jolla Shores beach or visit the Birch Aquarium for a fun and educational experience.
Moving on to Del Mar, we’d start the day with a visit to Del Mar Beach, perfect for a relaxing morning by the ocean. Lunch would be at Steak 48, renowned for its exceptional steaks. The afternoon would be spent exploring Del Mar Village, where we can enjoy boutique shopping and quaint cafes. As the evening approaches, we’d catch the sunset and enjoy a beachfront dinner at one of the local restaurants with ocean views.
The next day, we’d head to Solana Beach and Encinitas. We’d start with a visit to Cedros Avenue Design District in Solana Beach, a great spot for shopping and exploring art galleries. Lunch would be at The Beach House, offering a casual beachfront dining experience. In the afternoon, we could explore the Encinitas Botanical Garden or take a relaxing walk through downtown Encinitas. For dinner, Valentina would be the perfect spot, known for its excellent food and inviting atmosphere.
On the fourth day, we’d revisit some North County favorites. We’d brunch at Buena Fetta, savoring its cozy environment and great food. The rest of the day would be spent exploring local parks or taking a scenic drive along the coast. In the evening, we could enjoy a casual dinner at one of the local favorites or revisit a spot we enjoyed earlier in the week.
For day five, we’d dive into the vibrant Little Italy neighborhood. We’d start by exploring the streets of Little Italy, visit local shops, and enjoy coffee at a local café. Lunch would be at one of the fantastic Italian eateries, like Bencotto Italian Kitchen. In the afternoon, we’d walk around Seaport Village to experience downtown San Diego vibes, and for the evening, we’d check out a local bar or restaurant for a night out in the city.
On the sixth day, we’d explore downtown San Diego, starting with a visit to Balboa Park to enjoy its museums and beautiful gardens. Lunch could be at The Prado in Balboa Park or a diverse dining option in the Gaslamp Quarter. The afternoon might include a harbor tour or a visit to the USS Midway Museum. To end the day, we’d enjoy a rooftop drink or dinner at a downtown restaurant with a view.
Finally, on the seventh day, we’d spend a relaxing morning at a local beach or park, followed by a leisurely brunch at a nearby café. The afternoon would be perfect for reflecting on the week’s adventures, doing some last-minute shopping, or revisiting any favorite spots. We’d end the trip with a special dinner or sunset view to cap off the week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to a few pivotal figures and organizations that have greatly influenced my journey. My first mentors were Roger Tuttle and James Morrison. Roger, the owner of the first salon I worked at when I moved to San Diego, was instrumental in my development. His entrepreneurial spirit and kind leadership greatly shaped my understanding of what was possible in the world of hairdressing.
James Morrison, co-owner of Toni & Guy, was another significant influence. His exceptional artistry and ability to translate his creative skills into teachable content were crucial in shaping my approach as an educator and coach.
Additionally, L’Oréal Professionnel played a major role in my growth. They provided me with invaluable insights into teaching and structuring haircuts into content with clear language and purpose.
Each of these mentors and organizations contributed in their unique ways, helping me to grow both personally and professionally, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
