We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Sosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tony, how do you think about risk?
Before I answered this question, I researched the definition of ‘risk’. What I’ve read and learned is that it’s exposure to danger, harm, or loss. But, I, personally, would like to consider the term ‘risk’ on the contrary perhaps. It’s exposure to the unknown, the act of being brave, the thought that there is always a light at the end of everyone’s tunnel. We all take risks in life (and, especially in our careers). I’ve taken many. At the risk of sounding redundant, risks in life are what motivate us to do better. I’ve made mistakes in my life. Who hasn’t? I worked at Paul Mitchell the School San Diego for 16 years and up until recently I have relocated to Salon Ink in San Diego. I’m a creature of habit. Some would say that it’s difficult for me to accept change. Joining my new team at Salon Ink has been a beautiful adjustment. Beautiful salon. Beautiful location. Beautiful team. Joining this team was a joy and a risk at the same time. I had no idea what to expect, but it turns out it was the best risk I’ve ever taken. For anyone reading this, I assure you, risks are worth taking. I’ve been burned, I’ve been dumped, I’ve been fired, I’ve been lied to. The biggest risk I’ve ever taken is being myself. And it always pays off.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve worked in the hair industry for many, many years. I am currently at Salon Ink. I’ve worked in the Paul Mitchell industry for over sixteen years. It’s the fiber of my career.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown, San Diego has always been a staple of mine. The restaurants, the sightseeing, the atmosphere. I love Italian food, so anywhere that has good pasta or pizza; I’m all on board! I often tend to drag my friends to the movie theater with me, as I am someone who loves to watch movies. Lastly, the beach. You can’t visit San Diego and not enjoy the beach the views.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
