We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Lund and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is knowing my target audience and knowing how to pivot when needed to adapt my brand to the present market.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art form is cake making. When people look at my cakes, they see tall tiers, and refined and symmetrical details whether it’s a wedding cake or a birthday cake. I love clean sharp edges, this is something I obsess over and part of the satisfying process of cake making. I love doing intricate detail but I don’t mind an abstract piece from time to time. I am most proud of just enjoying my process and being my own boss. I have learned many lessons throughout the years and have found that when one door closes another door opens and when 2 doors close, find a window. There are opportunities everywhere to grow, take as many as you can afford to. A particular lesson I’ve learned along the way is that make sure you do your research and due diligence when it comes to big decisions. Big decisions can be catastrophic to the health of your business but they can also have big rewards if you play your cards right. Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, instead, sometimes it’s best to stay in your backyard. When things are not going well, pivot and make the appropriate change until you find something that works.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s hard for me to really answer this as I have been away from San Diego since 2010 and so much has changed. I just moved back a month ago but I would say the best places are the ones which are local to where you live. I love to support small mom-and-pop places but also those who work from home and are living their own hustle/side hustle. I appreciate all small businesses that are living out their passions to work for themselves and their crafts.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success and love of dessert was jumpstarted by my late father who taught me how to bake at a young age. My aunt is also an integral part of my journey, she recognized my artistic drive and enrolled me in a cake decorating class when I was in elementary school. From that point on, I would use cake decorating as my art form and artistic outlet. My husband and kids to this day are my biggest fans. I wouldn’t be as successful as I am without them. Last but not least, I am so grateful for all of my loyal and new clients. Without you, I wouldn’t be able to live out my dream of creating masterpieces and making new and yummy desserts. Baking gives me a sense of purpose and I thank everyone who has been involved in every aspect of my success.
