Meet Terrel Emerson | Owner & Editor of Talk that Talk Media Company

We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrel Emerson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrel, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I moved around the Los Angeles County area a lot growing up for various reasons but I claim Inglewood, California as my hometown because that’s the place where I grew into a man.
I spent my high school years there, got my first job during that time, learned a lot of my life lessons then and had a lot of firsts there in the city.
Being from that area and having family from all over the LA area means having to move through different cities. With that comes, maturing a little faster in some cases.
I love where I’m from because from the outside looking in it can look like the movies you see on TV and it’s uncontrollable.
While the city has its crime like any other city in the country, it has much more than that.
It has hope, it has tradition and it has a lot of artists of all kinds.
Just because somebody’s past isn’t as recognizable to you doesn’t mean they aren’t worthy of having their stories heard.
That section is filled with those stories and it’s not the only one.
That’s one of the reasons why I started my media company “Talk that Talk,” to show that there are creative minds of all types and when given a trusted platform to do so, it can blossom into some beautiful.
Whether it’s through sports, music or entertainment, I would like for this media company to be a springboard to uplift people from all walks of life while showcasing their tremendous talents and abilities along the way.
Everyone has a story, including you, and someone else’s discomfort should never be your concern.
What should our readers know about your business?
The “Talk that Talk Media Company” stands alone because it represents where storytelling is going in the near future.
For the longest of time, we’ve been given sports, music and entertainment from one perspective in most cases.
There is now a newer generation of storytellers who have lived half of their lives without the internet, including social media, and half of it with it Off that alone, they see the world from a much different perspective.
However, the things we loved from before and now (i.e. sports talk radio shows, podcasts and blog-type websites) are now being told by those with that latter perspective.
With that comes some barrier breaking. There will be new and innovative ways to tell stories while keeping the audience entertained simultaneously.
It may not look like the “traditional” ways to tell the news but it will be a different way to tell the news and that’s okay.
It won’t be easy but it will be earned.
We are still overcoming the hurdles and challenges that lie in our way as a collective unit here at the media company.
I’m so appreciative of every single person who has been and is helping us build toward something greater than us individually.
A lot of sacrifices go into making this thing work on all accounts and I do not take one thing that anyone on the team has ever done for the group for granted.
It takes all of us and we all have bought-in fully.
We’ve learned that not everyone will understand what we are trying to do at first but in time, it will make sense and it will make its mark.
Everything has its inception, and most times, we don’t hear about the rough beginnings or struggles until an entity has already become a powerful brand.
Our story may flip-flop those two so our audience can be apart of our growth along with us and that’s okay too.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man, if I’m back home I can suggest food options for days. It really all depends on what a person is into because the LA area has literally everything.
Anybody who knows me knows I like to take people away from the areas they see on TV because not all places that are shown on TV capture the real essence of the LA lifestyle.
If it’s food, we are going to a lot of places that they’ve probably never heard of. We’re going to Fabulous Burgers in Inglewood, maybe Astros or Rascals in Gardena or Louis III in Long Beach or any taco truck (even though Florence and Hoover have the best ones to me).
This is all if we’re keeping it simple. If we’re doing fancy, there’s always the Killer Shrimp or Whiskey Red’s in Marina Del Rey.
I’ll give out one of my secret places and that’s Yamashiro Hollywood. Thank me later.
I don’t like crowds so I know of a lot of small, dive bars that treat you like family. Stage 21 Bar and Lounge formerly known as the “Tattle Tale Room” in Culver City is a good spot to sneak into for a night of fun.
In addition to things like that, there are all types of views in the city. There are plenty of places you can take people for a view so that would definitely have to be on the list.
Not to mention, the multitude of sports teams in the city.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
No one deserves more credit for what I’ve become in my life than my parents, Olivia and Kenneth,
Their unwavering support through all chapters of my life has been beyond helpful. The lessons they’ve given me have shown themselves in various forms throughout my journey and their forewarnings have played a big role in my ability to avoid their pitfalls.
To think they were able to raise two young men, in myself and my brother, Jerrel Wade, to be young business owners speaks volumes.
As a team, they were able to teach us the values of life while reminding us to keep the right people close to us.
I often say “While my parents weren’t perfect, they didn’t do it wrong.”
