We had the good fortune of connecting with Tarajah Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tarajah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly I started my business off without any thought. I just woke up one morning and thought I’m going to buy a heat press today 😂 and it started from there.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My business consists of custom T-shirts hoodies coffee mugs grave blankets and so much more.. This was never in my plans and I’ve always stated that my brother was the artistic one because he can draw and he also customize shoes etc.. So for me to have the thought of buying a heat press I had no idea where it came from. I started my business right after the pandemic hit and I was no longer working my job dealing with mortgages. I started off with making tray sets and once my heat press arrived my printing business took off. It’s not easy at all to keep up especially when popularity will win every time but I manage to stay in the game and push through. Overall I think my passion is what sets me apart from everyone else and the fact that everything I do is self taught and not many can say this. I’ve learned that my family, kids and my Lei Lei are my biggest supporters and fans without them I believe I would have quit as soon as I started. My mom always tells  me this is god’s plan and this I believe so I’ll keep pushing because I can’t allow my gifts to go to waste. The world should know that I’m passionate about what I do I put my heart into everything I create and the reaction I receive when orders are seen for the first time…. PRICELESS my next move is to have everyone wearing my brand but that’s another story 😉

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend and I would take a drive through the city just so I could show her what Richmond, VA looks like then I would take her to my brother’s friends stores who I love so much Rotate and chilalay (my top two) then we would head over to the tipsy crab because they are just the absolute best! But for the most part we would be around the family hanging out and relaxing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My inspiration all goes to my brother Devon but everyone knows him as Richie (creations by Rich LLC) He may not know it but even though he is my little brother, He is definitely my biggest inspiration and I’m most definitely his biggest fan!
