We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Polley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tara, how does your business help the community?
My business is deeply rooted in a commitment to community growth and support, especially through challenging times. During the foreclosure crisis in 2008, I dedicated myself to helping families keep their homes and navigate complex situations. It was a difficult period, and I saw firsthand how essential stability and guidance were for those affected. Homeownership is more than just acquiring property; it’s about building a foundation for security and future opportunities. It empowers families, strengthens neighborhoods, and fosters pride in our communities.

Through my role as a host on the National Emmy Nominated television show, The American Dream : Selling Bay Area, I get to showcase the heart of Sonoma County—from local businesses and artisans to community events that bring us all together. This exposure not only supports small businesses by encouraging tourism and patronage but also inspires viewers by highlighting the area’s unique culture and the value of homeownership as an attainable goal. Owning a home fosters a sense of belonging and strengthens our social fabric, which is why supporting homeownership and promoting local businesses has such a powerful impact on both individual lives and our society as a whole.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart is my commitment to creating lasting connections with my clients and my community. My approach to real estate isn’t just transactional; it’s about building trust and supporting families in one of the most meaningful investments of their lives. I’m especially proud of the work I’ve done on American Dream TV, where I can spotlight local businesses and events, showcasing what makes Sonoma County such a special place. My business is built around relationships, authenticity, care, and a deep dedication to both the people I serve and the place I call home.

Getting here has not been easy, though. I started my real estate career over 23 years ago and faced my share of challenges, especially during the 2008 foreclosure crisis. At that time, I saw the pain and fear so many families were experiencing. I was determined to help them navigate their situations and keep their homes wherever possible, which taught me resilience and the importance of community support. Challenges like these have shaped who I am and reinforced my belief in the impact real estate can have on people’s lives.

Today, my work is bolstered by an incredible network through Sotheby’s International Realty where I’ve made connections throughout the country. I’m also grateful to be part of American Dream TV, where I work alongside a team that’s just as committed to improving our communities as I am. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you have to stay true to your values, put people first, and keep showing up, even when things are tough.

My brand is about so much more than buying or selling homes; it’s about making a difference. I want the world to know that, for me, real estate is a vehicle for positive change. I’m here to help families create their futures, support my community, and inspire others to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d give them the ultimate tour of Sonoma County! It’s an area packed with incredible experiences, and there’s no shortage of things to do.

Day 1: Welcome to Wine Country
We’d start with a relaxing day exploring some of the world-renowned wineries. I’d take them to a few of my favorite spots like Lambert Bridge Winery and Kendall-Jackson, where we could enjoy tastings with stunning vineyard views. In the evening, we’d have dinner at Belly Left Coast Kitchen and Tap Room in Santa Rosa. The atmosphere there is always lively, with live music each week, and they serve up amazing dishes with a regional twist, perfect for kicking off the trip.

Day 2: Beach Day
We’d head to Bodega Bay or Dillon Beach for a classic Northern California beach day. The rugged coastlines are stunning, and it’s a refreshing escape. I’d pack us a picnic with fresh local produce and maybe some wine from the day before! Afterward, we’d head back to town for a brewery visit. Sonoma County is the microbrew capital of the U.S., so we’d have to stop by HenHouse Brewing Company, Fogbelt or Parliment for some of the best local craft beers.

Day 3: Taco Tuesday Bike Ride
This is a local favorite and such a fun way to experience the community! We’d join the Taco Tuesday bike ride, where locals and visitors alike cruise through the streets on bicycles, stopping at Mitote Food Park taco trucks. It’s a great way to see the town, enjoy delicious food, and connect with the community.

Day 4: Family Fun at the Children’s Museum
If my friend has kids, we’d make a stop at the Children’s Museum of Sonoma County. It’s a gem with interactive exhibits that are as fun for adults as they are for kids. They’d have a blast exploring the outdoor areas and creative play spaces. Later, we’d take it easy with a stroll around Healdsburg Plaza, maybe grabbing a quick coffee or a scoop of ice cream at Noble Folk.

Day 5: Mountains, Hiking, RIver Float
We’d explore the natural beauty of Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve or take a hike up in Annadel State Park. These spots showcase the incredible redwoods and scenic mountain views that Northern California is known for. In the summer, we could float down the Russian River on an inner tube, Afterward, we’d refuel at Stark’s Steak & Seafood, or Willi’s Wine Bar, classic Sonoma County spots with a warm vibe and incredible food.

Day 6: Day Trip to San Francisco
With San Francisco just an hour’s drive away, we’d take a day trip into the city to catch a baseball game at Oracle Park if the Giants are playing or explore a comedy show, concert, or festival. San Francisco has endless entertainment, so we’d find something fun, then return to Sonoma County for a peaceful evening.

Day 7: Wine, Art, and Farewell Dinner
We’d wrap up the week by visiting the Sebastopol Barlow, an artsy, creative hub with local galleries and unique shops and restaurants. In October, we could also attend the Harvest Festival, and taste over 300 award winning wines in one place, We could eat a final farewell dinner at Blue Ridge Kitchen or Fernbar.

Sonoma County has it all—wineries, beaches, mountains, breweries, and endless cultural events. It’s the perfect blend of relaxation, outdoor adventure, and amazing local food, drink, and community spirit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My journey in real estate has been a true family affair. My four children have grown up alongside me in this business, always so supportive and patient, even as I’ve navigated long hours, weekends, and last-minute calls. Their understanding has been an incredible foundation for me, making it possible to serve my clients fully and with heart.

Working at Sotheby’s under the guidance of Jonathan Soh, my manager, has been another invaluable source of support. His leadership has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. And, with American Dream TV, my business has reached new heights. Being part of a network of like-minded professionals has been truly transformative, as everyone on the team shares a commitment to improving our communities and elevating the industry. Through ADTV, I’m able to connect with a dedicated team that genuinely values both people and places. This support—from my family, my manager, and my team—enables me to better serve my clients and make a positive impact on our community.
