We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanisha Newman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanisha, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be solely love. I have found myself making so many HUGE decisions on the basis of love. Love for myself, love for my family, love for the people that are all around me, and love for my business and creative outlets. I fall in love with everyone for a quick moment by simply just knowing they were also unexpectedly brought into this world without a single plan. We all are truly just living the best way we know how and by the unspoken rules we as a society have created. It’s truly an insane concept to me that I am even doing it so I applaud all who as well are on this journey with me. I feel as though everyone should spend their days doing what it is that they love to do and as a Business Consultant and Creative I help people find a way to do so while being able to support themselves and their families.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a Creative Agency! I focus primarily on Business Consulting, Creative Directing, and Production Management. I have many passions but my favorite thing to do is help individuals/business’s bring their dreams to LIFE! I love all things creativity and I have learned that when working along side creatives the execution aspect of our careers gets often overlooked. Granted, we are visionaries and that is what makes us so amazing but all visions need a plan. I have found that my ability to communicate and plan have helped not only helped my dreams come true but other business owners, and it was time to create a Business Plan that matched just that. It was really hard taking the leap into entrepreneurship because the experience I had, made me feel as though I already was there but nobody tells you what it truly takes to own your business. SELF DISCIPLINE is a must.. You must be okay to give your seeds time to grow before trying to reap the benefits of your sew. And not all positive reinforcements come in the form of financial gain. I love everything that I do within my business and I believe that if you have the correct logistics set up for your business you will never lose the passion you started it with in the first place and I believe that I have the ability to help other creatives and business owners understand that.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is a WONDERLAND to say the absolute least, I tell my friends all the times that it truly encompasses all needs for every individual. I myself love to eat and have found a second home on the lovely streets of Little Italy, I mean PASTA IS LIFE AM I RIGHT?! I had the opportunity to open/operate Cloak and Petal, which is a Japanese inspired concept right in the heart of Little Italy and while doing so I found so much comfort in the tight knit energy that has been instilled in that community. I would go for a round of Sushi and Craft Cocktails at my old stomping grounds to prepare for the BEST Carbonara dinner at Barbusa before a night cap at the OG location, WATERFRONT! Usually by day I turn into a tour guide of my favorite views. San Diego has to have the most amazing views I have ever seen and to be able to share that with the people I love is the most important! I like to explore the Reservoirs and showcase the versatility San Diego harbors with the isolated landscapes not usually expected ESPECIALLY Otay Lakes. I find my comfort near the water so I tend to find the most amazing places that are coastal and easy to explore but also adventurous and breathtaking. My favorite part of living here is the excitement all of the people in my life have to come and visit so when they are here I do my best to make it the most memorable and TEMPTING experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly I would like to give all the glory to my Grams! One thing I truly admired about her is her complete love for being herself. Until the day she left this earth she made sure to be the light in everyone’s life but also be the very light in her own. I remember growing up all she wanted was to celebrate us. She was a Jackie of all trades. Literally… She was a model, an equestrian, a glider pilot, a barmaid, a landlady and restaurateur… Everything I have grown up to be and I truly believe it is because of her. She would play dress up with us as we styled her wardrobe and did her makeup. She would buy us markers and paints to draw on her walls… She praised the way we expressed ourselves ALWAYS and d truly is one of my biggest inspirations in life.
