Meet Susan Aquila | Violinist/Electric Violinist/Vocalist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Aquila and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Susan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It’s in my bones! From the very first time I saw someone playing an instrument, I knew that I had to be a musician. Once an instrument was put in my hands, I ran with it and never looked back. Someone once asked Billy Joel the question: how do you know of you should go into music? His response summed it all up. He said, “ if you have to ask yourself that question, you shouldn’t go into music”. It comes from your soul.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career as a violinist and artist has had many lives! It is always changing and is always in flux. I am so happy that I am musically fertile this year. I am very excited this year to be releasing 7 new jazz/rock instrumentals. I’m also releasing 3 rock songs that really express my soul and is written to fit my unique voice. In addition, I am beyond excited to share that I am now touring with the Icons of Rock- The Orchestra Starring ELO and ELO Part II Former members. This is a dream come true. It scratches every itch for me. I get to use my classical chops, rock chops on violin as well as having opportunities to sing and work the stage. The musicians in this band and off the charts talented and on top of that, they are beautiful souls. I am so happy and grateful to work with them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In New York City there are so many things to do.! We would have to hear some jazz at the Blue Note, catch a Broadway show and go to Lincoln Center to hear The New York Philharmonic. After that, we eat and eat at all the diverse restaurants.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is a shoutout to drummer, percussionist virtuoso and producer Doug Yowell for being my musical guru. He has helped me redirect my music and artistic vision to be my authentic self and to finally have music that represents who I am. He has always been honest with me in the process. Thank you, Doug. And also a big Thank You to song writer and producer, Drew Yowell who is writing music that reflects this process and keeps me on the highest level.
