We had the good fortune of connecting with Suher Haidar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suher, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Here is my 3-factor rule for risk-taking: 1. I ask 3 people who I trust in my life for advice. My sibling (my past & knows where I come from), my industry friend (because she knows where my mind frame is at all times), and my spouse (because he is my significant future). 2. I follow my gut instinct. My whole life has been a risk. After collecting advice from everyone, I sit with a cup of coffee and I fantasize how about each scenario and outcome for any decision I need to make whether it is personal, career, or lifestyle. 3. I pre-prepare myself for two scenarios while in the process of taking a risk: loss or success. I leave you with this risk is what keeps our creative juices running and with that risk, you will never know what you can accomplish.
What should our readers know about your business?
Refined by Suher is the first of its kind. I started this in 2018 where workshops and network events were really starting to take off. No one had it down for the wedding and event industry. So I took everything I love and everything that’s made me successful and offered it to my “Refined Tribe”. I threw glitter all around town and made sure to leave everyone around me better than I left them. It was not easy- many people said it would not work but I went with my gut instinct and took a risk at every step of success. I want the world to know that hard work, honesty, kindness, and love will get you further than anything in life and that’s what Refined By Suher is about.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s not a San Diego trip without stopping at a local taco shop for the perfect breakfast burrito. I love to go to PB for the best sunset and La Jolla to experience the fancy lifestyle at La Valencia. For a wild night of fine dining and bar-hopping, go to Little Italy. For a morning energy burst, do a hike up Torrey pines and have bagels on the beach. Mission Bay for bonfires and smores for dinner. Call a few of my friends and have a night of homemade food, wine, and gossip at my house. Also, I love shopping during the day and mimosa brunch by the ocean.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out from the top of the hills with all of the sparkles & shine to the wonderful people who have supported REFINED: my REFINED Tribe. Thank you for your community, connection, collaboration and love at REFINED workshops, events & Cafe Crawls, Refined Awards, and all the in-betweens. I am looking forward to showcasing and connecting with you all more in 2021. A huge thank you and huge to Francine Ribeau for being my voice of reason and teaching me elegance and style comes from within not something that can be taught or bought.
