Meet Steve Kader | Talent Buyer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Kader and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steve, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I think it is important to always go back to what originally drew you to your career. For me it was a part of my DNA f/my grandfather/dad & music/the arts was always an integral part of our lives. The passion has to always be there. If it is gone or you are going through the motions it is time to give up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was raised in a family where the arts were always important. As a young person I wrote poetry & was told I had a great singing voice. I started seeing live music @ 12 years old & it changed my life. I next starting playing in original music bands @ 15 years old & got the music bug bigtime. In my early 20s the business side of music became more interesting to me & I interned/was employed in radio-I built relationships there that I still have to this day. Next I shifted gears & was passionate about a band that were friends & became their manager. I had never done this work before but again more relationships were being built. Fast forward a few years & I started interning @ a local music venue in their booking department-I was there for 8 years & rose to national talent buyer. I have been a talent buyer now for 30 years & to this day enjoy breaking new artists & booking established artists.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eats: Las Cuatro Milpas/Cafe La Maze/Blind Lady Ale House
Drink: Ould Sod/Cherry Bomb
Visit: Sunset Cliffs
Hang Out: Adams Avenue Street Fair

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad who just passed away @ 85 years old. He pushed me to always keep going, be open minded, & constantly strive to be creative.
