Meet Stephany Rose | Co-Owner of Agápe 1928

We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephany Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, the original dream was my late husband’s. About 15 years ago we needed a building for the church he was a pastor to. He did not want to build a building just for the church. He wanted a business that would not only support the church but, serve the community and build revenue for all involved so we could give back.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I (Stephany Rose) am one of the part owners of the venue Agape 1928. It was actually my late husband (Boogie Rose) who was the dreamer of the space. I consider myself one of the lucky ones who gets to share the story of Agape and tour the potential Couples, Event Coordinators or anyone that wants to see our space.
Agape was a 15 year long dream build to support a little church. The idea was to not just build a building just for the sake of church on Sunday, but to have business that would thrive during the week and support the church. The business would allow the church to focus on serving the community and people and not need to pay rent or raise a building fund. This was a big dream for a pastor of a small church but he wouldn’t give it up. It was through a relationship made in our son’s little league that he met his business partner (Eric Bowman CEO of Agape 1928). Soon after this merge of dreams the guys started looking for a property. When they acquired what is now Agape 1928 we just couldn’t believe it! An original Ole Hanson. These are historic buildings in San Clemente and there was so much potential for the space. Soon after the first couple city meetings the guys realized this project was going to take a serious amount of grit. They needed to have everything approved not only from the city, but the historical society and the coastal commission as well. EVERYTHING had to be approved to look as it did in 1928. Throw in a pandemic and zoom meetings there were so many hurdles, so much money and so much heart in this project. There was a totally different name for our venue. About half way through this battle of building and restoring the space we decided to change the name to Agape 1928. The amount of Love being poured into this project had to be defined in our brand. Agape love is selfless sacrificial love for the good of others, its the kind of LOVE that endures all things, preservers, unconditional never-ending love. The love you want in a marriage, in a business when you are serving others. We realized that the struggles we were facing in the building were just preparing us to learn how to serve and love well in the business. We stand on this name. Our staff stands on Agape love and we truly believe that when you enter our space you will receive a love like no other.

Eric Bowman heard the vision and quickly became Boogie’s (my husbands) business partner. Eric is the primary owner of Agápe. He an Boogie Rose made the dream come alive. The two of them poured their whole hearts into this project!
