We had the good fortune of connecting with Star Bourgoyne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Star, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because at my core I’m a creator. You know, some people are teachers, healers, leaders, and my role on this earth and in society is a creator. I’ve always been creative, and my creativity goes beyond art. I can create in various areas and overall, I have a really good eye for putting things together and turning nothing into something. Growing up I tried so many different things. I was an athlete for about a year or two, I was a musician for about 6 years, I was always really good at school and for a really long time I thought I was going to be a lawyer because I was really passionate about criminal justice so there were a few different fields I could have chosen from. but ultimately, I chose the artistic route which honestly was a shock to both myself and my family. I’ve always had such a deep appreciation for art in all forms, photography, architecture, sculptures, paintings, etc. And once I decided to explore art and actually pursue it, my love for it grew stronger and my ability to create was undeniable. I love turning nothing to something and I love being able to create things that people wouldn’t even think were possible. At the end of the day, I’m a creator, and that’s why I was drawn towards being an artist and entrepreneur.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I pursue a lot of artistic things, graphic design, clothing design, photography and more little things in between. But out of those three my calling card is definitely photography. I’m relatively new to the game but I am very proud of the progress I’ve made as an artist. What sets me apart as an artist is the ability to capture people in a way that their own eyes can’t capture themselves. I absolutely love when I get the “Woah that’s me” type of reactions from clients or when they say things like, “I would have never thought to shoot it that way”. I love being able to allow my creativity to flow and bring something new to the table. I always have a vision and I love allowing others to see my vision and see me make that vision a reality. My journey so far has definitely not been easy. As a creator it is very, very hard to gain support from people in the beginning and I even stopped my business endeavors for months, maybe even almost a year because not only was I losing friends and not gaining the support I thought I would have, but worst of all I was losing myself. I am a social butterfly; I can walk into a room full of strangers and walk out with a room of best friends. so, knowing as many people as I do and having as many “friends” as I had. to see that they weren’t as passionate and happy for my new projects as I was very heartbreaking for me. I spent so much time, energy, and especially money and to see every last bit of it go straight down the drain because I wasn’t gaining enough support to keep my first brand open was crushing. But to be honest, as I look back on it, I’m nothing but grateful for the experience. It made me who I am today and allowed me the discovery and growth I needed to carry on and be successful now. Like I said, I’m relatively new to the game but I have so much planned for the future and the progress and success I’ve had so far has shown me that I can go far. I know for a fact everything is going to fall into place and my time will come, regardless of who’s there cheering me on. I have the vison and I’m so determined to chase it and make it a reality.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live in the Inland Empire so I would probably take them to Temecula, it’s not super crowded but still has some really fun spots to visit. Over a week I would probably take my friend on a hot air balloon ride or if it’s winter then we’d go ice skating. And there’s so many unique food spots so we’d probably go on a mini food tour. Temecula is not far from major cities like Los Angeles or San Diego, so we definitely have to check out a beach or two. and the scenery is so nice in Southern California, so we’d probably take a drive just to go sightseeing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out my older brother JP. Ultimately, he is the reason I am where I’m at today with my career. He is an artist and entrepreneur himself and when I was 14 years old, he showed me how to get into drop shipping. Since I was in like middle school, he would talk to me about how to make quick cash, things like buying a pack of candy or phone chargers and selling them at school to make a profit. By watching him pursue his own business endeavors I learned a lot of the foundational things I know today about business and the basics of making money and growing a following and success. Through drop shipping I got into graphic design, clothing, photography and so much more, and if he had never shown me drop shipping and overall, how to become an entrepreneur, especially at an early age, I literally would not be where I am at today.
