Meet Spencer Sigoda | Husband, Father & Business Advisor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Sigoda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Spencer, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I would say though out my life I’ve always had a “work hard, play hard” mentality. I learned at young age the importance of maintaining a proper balance between the two and I think is safe to say I’ve done a good job staying consistence with this ideology. However, over the past 6 years it has increasingly become more challenging to maintain that ideal work life balance and I have my beautiful family to thank for this. Ever since my wife and I decided to have children my work life balance has changed considerably which I’ve had to adapt to am now very happy and at peace with.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Well, I guess let start from the beginning. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, I’m the oldest of three boys and have two wonderful parents who just happen to be deaf. So, I can say I’m bilingual with ASL being my first language. I grew up playing all types of sports with skiing, baseball and football being my favorites. I graduated from Skyline high school where I played football, won two state championships and was awarded 1st Team All State Defensive honors. This earned me a full ride scholarship to Weber State University, where I played for 4 years, was Defensive Captain and graduated with BS degree in Tech Sales and Communication.
I would say graduating from college is by far one of my proudness achievements as I was the first to do so in my family. This definitely shaped me as a individual as it taught me how to be discipline, work hard, how to walk your own path and if you’re going to start something make sure you finish it.
Good things don’t come easy! If you want to have a good life with a successful career, emotional satisfaction, and trustworthy friends you must work hard. Luck can take you only so far and the rest is entirely up to you, the amount of effort you put in every day, and the ability to learn from your mistakes. Don’t think for a moment that someone else is going to fight your battles with the same energy and devotion as you would.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Geez … where do I start? I would say at the beach, as this is ultimately the reason why I move to San Diego. Growing up in the mountains of Utah as avid skier/snowboarder, I always wished I could somehow do it all year long. So, I thought to myself what is a similar lifestyle sport I could do all year long and surfing naturally came to mind.
Day one and two, would be spent in North County surfing our way down the coast hitting up all my favorite breaks from Oceanside to Encinitas to La Jolla.
Day three, would start off with a Cowles Mountain hike, followed up with eating and drinking in University & Normal Heights down to North & South Park.
Day four, we would hop on my electric bikes and go beach bumming in PB, Mission, OB and Point Loma.
Day five, would be spent eating and drinking in Little Italy and Downtown (catching a Padres game if they’re in town). We would book a hotel room for the night, so we have somewhere hide after painting the downtown red.
Day six, we would grab our passports and spend the day (and possibly the night) with our neighbors in Tijuana.
Day seven, recharge the batteries and get ready to do all over again.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you to my beautiful wife Tracy for always being by side, supporting me and acting as my #1 cheerleader. My three amazing little boys Axel, Nixon and Bodhi for being my built in best friends and reminding me of what its like to be a kid again.
A big shout out to my mentors at SD Business Advisors, Sean Seaman & Dustin Sigall for recruiting me, believing in me and always providing me with unwavering support day in and day out.
