We had the good fortune of connecting with Sol Manalo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sol, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my career and brand is authenticity. Being my most authentic self aligned me with all the right opportunities and people. It also freed up a lot of my energy that was consumed when I was trying to fit in with the norm.

When I first started my business, I was still afraid of showing my true self and doing exactly what I felt called to do because of what my family and others would think. Energy healing, wasn’t a concept many people could grasp (especially where I started in Ohio,) nor was it and still isn’t a mainstream practice.

Being my true self made myself and my brand very relatable. My personal story became my drive to create these safe spaces. I really created something that I needed in my life during some of the most challenging times and when I felt lost. Now I am of great service for others going through challenging times and for those that are on a path of self-discovery and holistic healing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sol Healing is a space for self-discovery and healing. I teach reiki and offer sessions; and facilitate sound healing meditative experiences. Reiki and sound heals on all levels: mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Reiki is simply the Japanese word for universal life force energy. It is energy that we all have within us and that is all around us. I teach you how to tap into your energy to self-heal and how to tap into your higher purpose.

People come to me from all over the world whether it’s in person or virtually that are looking for a holistic alternative for healing, or to remember their true selves.

My main messages are ‘everything you need is within you,’ and ‘everything happened for you, not to you.’ I offer the guidance on how to go within through meditation and I show people how they can take their life and use it to guide and inspire others that have gone through similar situations.

Starting this business wasn’t easy at all at first because no one knew what reiki was where I was from. I also grew up in a Filipino, Catholic household. My grandparents lived with us and they were in such denial about what I wanted to do on top of the fact they were super disappointed in me and unsupportive once they found out I dropped out of school.

This did motivate me to keep going though! Not having the support I needed early on really helped me overcome the challenges because I knew that there were so many other humans that felt the way I did and had no one or no where to go to.

Moving to LA in 2020, is when I truly stepped into my work and started to expand. People here are more open and receptive to holistic practices which has helped my overall business growth! Now, my family is super supportive and they understand what it is I’m doing!

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about me…it’s that, I will always advocate for our sovereignty as a species and that everything I do or align myself and my brand with is LOVE. I will always aim to inspire humans to love themselves and to know how worthy they are!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely start our days off with a juice or smoothie at Juice Crafters or Naturewell I would take them on one of my favorite hikes up to the Wisdom Tree and spend time up there meditating. Other hikes i’d take them on would be through the Santa Monica Mountains, up to the Griffith, and take a walk through Nature Fern Dell.

We’d drive up and down PCH, stop in Malibu and go to El Matador Beach. For the LA experience, I’d also take them to Santa Monica Pier and Venice. We would paddle board in Marina and also hike the Culver City Stairs.

During a beautiful sunset, I would take them on the swan boats in echo park and after get some fresh watermelon juice from a street vendor. I’d also like to take them to Wisdome for a sound bath and show them around the arts district!

For food, I’m vegan, so I’d take them to all my favorite plant based spots like Nic’s on Beverly, Crossroads Kitchen, Gokoku Ramen Shop, and Salaya. Hopefully San & Wolves bake shop would pop-up so we can grab vegan Filipino baked goods!

There’s so much to do in LA..these are just some of the many things I would want to do!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course I want to shout out my family because they’re a major reason why I am who I am today, but I want to really shout out my psychology professor that changed my life without knowing he did! It was the class I was in when I made the decision to drop out of college.

We spent a lot of time on Socrates (so inspired by him!) and my professor really started to have us question life and the meaning of it. We started learning about “knowledge” and how it comes from within. At this time, I already felt my soul searching for something deeper and for my higher purpose. I honestly was ready to give up school being in my senior year as a fashion student.

I’ll never forget the day he was being funny and said “I find it crazy that you spend thousands and thousands of dollars to pay us to teach you knowledge that you already have within you.” I never showed up to class again and that’s when my journey to self-discovery truly began!

Thank you for being the validation I needed at the time to listen to my soul and to follow a higher calling!
