Meet Snehal Dcunha | Software engineer/Home bartender

We had the good fortune of connecting with Snehal Dcunha and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Snehal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started getting in home bartending around 10 years back, enjoying the creative part of the process and eventually, experimenting with different types of spirits and working on classic cocktails. A couple years later, I started posting my pictures on Instagram and ended up getting features and sponsored content to work on.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Home Cocktail Enthusiast with no prior industry experience. My cousin is a bar supervisor for Four Seasons in Maldives, and he started out as a bartender at FS’s AER Lounge in Mumbai, which is regarded as one of the best bars in India. So, whenever I had a house party, I would ask him for advice on cocktails. I started enjoying the creative part of the process and eventually, experimenting with different types of spirits and working on classic cocktails. A couple years later, I started posting my pictures on Instagram and ended up getting features and sponsored content to work on. I think what sets me apart is that my content is an amalgamation of drink culture and food photography. Whether you are a cocktail enthusiast or a budding photographer, you will always find something to relate to on my page. I focus on easy to make but delicious cocktail recipes that can be made at home easily.
Being a career software engineer, my home bartending started as a weekend hobby and has since blown into a full-time passion project where I now, along with my wife, work with brands from the spirit industry to develop recipes and capture beautiful cocktails that can inspire, ignite a spark of motivation and bring people together.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego is the quintessential SoCal city with beautiful weather all year round and a vibrant cultural scene. As such, below are some of my favorite places to visit. As far as visiting spots go, I love the La Jolla coves with crystal clear waters, abundant marine life and activities to keep you busy for the entire day. Also the Torrey Pines State Reserve is a place I love visiting, especially early mornings and evenings. Definitely have to visit coronado island and old town.
For food, there are so many options but some of the restaurant I have seen myself visiting time and again are Din Tai Fung taiwanese cuisine at UTC mall, The Fishery for its amazing seafood dishes and Cesarina for it’s amazing pasta.
My favorite bars around the city are Raised by Wolves at UTC mall, Realm of the 52 remedies, Bar Kindred and Lions’s Share.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Rhea. She has been managing my Instagram handle from day one, and has been the creative mind behind all my picture edits.
