We had the good fortune of connecting with Shinae Choi aka Shaman Asian Mama and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shinae Choi, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I started out in the arts and strayed from it for a long time, but ultimately, I didn’t have a choice but to return.

There were times in my life when I pursued other avenues because I believed, based on so much external conditioning, that more socially accepted career paths would be best to provide and care for my family. But over time, I learned that not living in alignment with one’s essence becomes very costly to the psyche, and a healthy psyche is the top priority in best fulfilling our purpose.

So you could say I did it to save myself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I provide metaphysical | 5d guidance for 3d individuals and businesses by applying understanding of Universal and Spiritual laws (what we can refer to as Source Code, among other labels) on the energetic dynamics surrounding their personal and professional lives by delving into past lives, ancestral guidance, and a generally clair-everything view into their energetic space.

I’m different in that I don’t use any divining tools (tarots, runes, etc.) and I bring both Western | Eastern, New World | Old World sensibilities, philosophies, intellectualism, and understandings to my work. Sometimes we are so concerned with being progressive and overlook the intelligence and wisdom offered us by other cultures and perspectives.

I’m proud of the fact that I continually strive not to project personal desires, fears, insecurities, and biases onto my clients’ situations and that I consider the Law of Karma in everything I do.

It’s a super interesting and challenging road to this place because Universe | Source | God | The Most High kicks you around quite a bit metaphysically in order for you to be competent in this work, but actually, once you understand, accept, and embrace that these laws are always operating on all of us all the time – i.e., once you have FAITH in their operation, it all actually becomes quite easy. I also know that my time spent in music, corporate, law school, and culinary were all by design to create my unique perspective and approach to navigating our growth and evolution.

I want people to know that we all have access to the downloads that people like me receive all the time and that we metaphysical practitioners are but translators, guides, and advisors. Each individual’s access to the Divine is ready and waiting for them whenever they earnestly endeavor to be in communion.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1 – Chill, hang, and set the energy for your visit at my place. I’ll cook all our meals, some pool and hot tub time, sunset dog walk on/about the La Costa Golf Course. (What are they gonna do – arrest us?), dinner and a Netflix standup special.

Day 2 – A quiet, unpeopled afternoon at Oceanside Harbor Beach (off season, naturally), a walk around downtown, sunset cocktails at The Shore Room, and dinner at Dija Mara.

Day 3 – Thrifting | Antiquing (and eating of course). Not disclosing my spots because I think we should all quest a lil bit for our treasures.

Day 4 – There’s these Korean hot springs on the way out to Palm Desert where you can pack your picnic (KBBQ of course) that I’ve been meaning to try and somewhere along that same road there’s this little Southeast Asian restaurant (I think the sign says Viet/ Thai / Lao) that I’m also dying to try so yeah – you’re coming with me and. you’re gonna like it goddammit.

Days 5 & 6 – Overnighter to Joshua Tree where we can ground ourselves a bit in desert energy, get in closer touch with our ancestors and spirit guides, drive through a Joshua Tree sunset, commune with heavenly bodies, and maybe Pappy & Harriets if we wanna stay out late.

Day 7 – Let’s assume this is a Sunday. We’ll hit Leucadia Farmers Market, get brunch at French Corner (12 oz. triple shot Café Pistache & an apple turnover – they only make one a day so I’ll let you have it), shop Silverlake Flea Encinitas, grab a double shot affogato at Gelato 101, walk Grandview beach, and then come home and let you rest for your flight in the morning!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my dad who told me I could be anything I wanted to be, saw who I was and who I wanted to be without projecting his own desires onto me, spent the time and resources to support my pursuits, and always told me to strive for my best and endeavor for understanding in every situation. That and he was a Top Secret Badass. 😉

Shout out to my mother who taught me to appreciate finer things and breathed strength into me simply by being herself.

Shout out to both my parents for never relinquishing their own sense of dignity, self worth and self respect in the face of the adversity they faced as immigrants.

Shout out to Roger, my dearest mentor, spiritual guide, and fierce provider and protector for anyone who was blessed to be under his wing.

Shout out to my children for their unconditional love, our shared warped sense of humor, and for being so damned evolved all the time.

Shout out to Jeffery who makes me laugh more in one week than I did in ten years (among other things). Laughter is breath for metaphysicians. It accelerates and enhances our connection to the Divine.
