Meet Shannon Thun | Owner of Aisling Designs

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Thun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I didn’t start Aisling Designs just to make spaces beautiful—I started it to bring visions to life. Aisling means ‘dream,’ and that’s the heart of what I do: translate the wild, the nostalgic, the soulful into interiors that feel lived-in, loved, and one-of-a-kind. I mix vintage finds with bold modern pieces to create layered, eclectic spaces that feel like you’ve arrived home—in a dream you didn’t know you had.
I started my career in the textile industry, drawn to craftsmanship and the tactile impact of materials. I developed my own line, but when it came time to scale, I found that mass production compromised the quality and intention I valued most. That experience pushed me to shift my focus to interior design—where I could still work hands-on, curate meaningful details, and build something lasting. With Aisling Designs, I bring together vintage and contemporary elements to create spaces that feel thoughtful, collected, and personal.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Pursuing a creative career is rarely a straightforward path. I began mine in a different direction—earning a degree in law and spending nearly a decade in the corporate world. But creativity was always in me. As a child, I spent countless hours painting, drawing, and sewing—fascinated by the process of making something from nothing. Despite a deep love for the arts, I wasn’t encouraged to follow that path. Like many, my family worried it wouldn’t lead to success. I believe that’s a dated perspective. Interior design is a crowded field, but true talent goes beyond curating a space from catalogs. It takes an artist’s eye: spatial awareness, bold application of color theory, and the instinct to mix vintage and modern with purpose. At Aisling Designs, I bring that depth and creativity to every project—helping clients design homes that reflect who they are, not just what’s trending. I launched Aisling Designs by first creating a staging company, which allowed me to develop a keen eye for how spaces can be transformed to tell a story and appeal to emotions. Today, Aisling Designs is more than just an interior design firm. It’s a reflection of my belief that true design requires an artist’s vision—spatial awareness, bold color theory, and the courage to mix styles in unexpected, meaningful ways. Anyone can curate a space from catalogs, but creating interiors that feel personal, timeless, and dynamic requires artistry. This is what I bring to every project, helping clients create homes that are not only beautiful but authentically theirs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever friends visit Boise, I love taking them on a little tour of what makes this city special. First, we explore the stunning nature-inspired murals and canvases scattered throughout the metro—there’s so much creativity reflecting our beautiful surroundings, and we’re truly lucky to have it. Then, we hit up some of the fantastic vintage stores around town. Boise has a few hidden gems that perfectly capture its eclectic spirit.
After a bit of shopping, my favorite spot to grab a bite is Wylder, right in the heart of downtown. They serve unique, thoughtfully crafted dishes that always surprise and delight. Finally, I introduce my friends to some of the amazing creatives and visionaries I’ve met here in the valley. Boise’s creative community is tight-knit and inspiring, and I love connecting people who are passionate about design, art, and innovation.
I also like to spend time showing my friends my Interior Design firm and the incredible Mid Century modern architecture that was brought back to life with my renovation of this 1956 gem.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While pursuing my degree in interior design, I worked as a designer for a well-established real estate agency here in Boise. That experience taught me the real-world impact of aesthetics—how thoughtful design not only transforms spaces, but also drives value and appeal. I gained deep insight into what sells, how buyers respond to environments, and the connection between style and strategy. After graduating, I launched a home staging company, which became the foundation for Aisling Designs. Today, I bring that same blend of creativity and market awareness to every interior design project. I have to give thanks to my clients, agents here in the treasure valley, and my amazing group of sub contractors that make my job come to fruition.
