We had the good fortune of connecting with Selin & Kebab and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Selin & Kebab, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I would love for people to remember Kebab for his unrelenting love for and outlook on life. He is so resilient, having been rescued from an abusive family after his leg was broken at 1 month old. People would expect him to be scared and reserved, but he is so happy and friendly. If everyone lived with the same curiosity and genuine love, we would all be so much happier. I think we can learn a lot from animals about love, patience, and hope.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I initially started Kebab’s Instagram account as a personal keepsake. It quickly grew, with others’ interest in Kebab shocking me. As his account grew, I met people online who have become genuine friends for life – we do a summer dog meetup called “Hot Doggie Summer”. Once I began taking Kebab’s instagram seriously, it became more anxiety provoking than harmless fun. Having to reach out to brands, keep followers engaged, and deliver against brand guidelines are only some of the few challenges with content creation. I had the belief that it was fun and easy – you got paid to hang out with your dog. But there’s so much behind the scenes! It truly is a full-time job, and managing another full-time job on top of my 9-5 proved difficult. With a lot of routine and moving out of my comfort zone, I’ve become a seasoned content creator who can enjoy the content she makes rather than stressing over it. I think as long as you stay authentic to yourself, transparent with your clients/followers, and have a clear vision, you can do anything!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
1: breakfast at swamis, San Diego Botanic Garden, dinner at death by tequila, drinks on D St
2: Little Italy farmer’s market sat 8-2 wed 9:30-1:30, san diego zoo, sunset at the beach with burritos
3: beach day, monarch happy hour & sunset toast
4: hike potato chip rock, drinks & food at el prez in pacific beach for sunset
5: another beach day in la jolla, paddleboarding/snorkeling at the cove, dinner at el puesto
6: Padres day game, beach side bonfire at sunset on fiesta island
7:
old town, Seaport Village, dinner at Miguels on the water, night out in Gaslamp

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout Academy Animal Hospital in Solana Beach! They have provided so much guidance and care for Kebab over the years – they are an incredible team to care for your furry friends and keep you informed and empowered in every decision.
