We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Galindo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work and life can be hard to balance, especially when your business is based from home. In the beginning I tried to book myself as much as I could and it become hard to find free time. I used all my free time as work time. I did this for a couple years and have recently started to give myself more of a set work schedule. I homeschool my two daughters, so it is important I have allotted time for school, work, family and free time. As a small business owner I think it is very beneficial to find time daily to “turn off” from work and focus on other things in life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Before I started my business, I was in a place of sadness and confusion. It was the year 2016 and I was a couple months postpartum with my second child. I struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety and I would watch videos online of people decorating cookies to help me relax and unwind from motherhood. One day I finally decided to give it a try and found a hidden talent I never knew I had. Decorating cookies helped me express my artistic side. Prior to motherhood I worked outside the home and got myself ready every day using make up to express myself. Having two children under two was difficult and I let being a mother define me. I lost my sense of self but regained it again when I started my business. I want my brand and story to empower other mothers to try new things and always believe in yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in a small city in SoCal called San Jacinto. We don’t have any major attractions but I do have a great house where I could easily entertain them, cook for them, bake for them and we could swim! I would of course take them to Knott’s Berry Farm and to eat at Porto’s Bakery right across the street. We would go hiking up in Oak Glen and eat apple pie from Riley’s Farm. I would also take them to Destination Smokehouse in Hemet for some amazing pulled pork!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, the biggest shoutout I can give is to God. I have been so blessed with the success of my small business and thank God everyday.

My mother and father were small business owners so watching them work hard and be successful has helped me maintain good work ethic and keeps me pushing forward in being self employed.

My husband has always been supportive of this business; even in the beginning when I wasn’t charging enough and he had to cover the costs of supplies! I am so thankful for his help and encouragement when I am feeling doubtful of myself.

Also, the community on Instagram of other cookie artists aka “cookiers” is helpful! Everyone is inspiring and supportive.
