We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Hoffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The most important decision I have made that has contributed to my success, is committing myself to personal growth. Several years ago I began my journey into the world of personal development, and it changed my life. Learning about and practicing growth mindset allowed me to change my perspectives and become resilient. I have read many books, attended workshops and leadership trainings, listened to podcasts, and surrounded myself with other people who were committed to their growth. I would have never even considered starting my own business, had I not dedicated myself to becoming the best version of me. Entrepreneurialism can be a rollercoaster and I am so grateful to have the tools I have learned to keep going when things get tough. Working on myself has given me the strength to persevere, pivot, fail, and try again.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other horseback riding instructors and programs is that I weave life lessons into my sessions. Horses can teach us so much about ourselves, life, and how to overcome challenges and obstacles. I love using the power and magic of horses to teach children and adults how to set boundaries, be resilient, gain confidence, feel empowered, and have fun! My heart feels full when my students come back to me and tell me how what they learned in their riding lessons has helped them in school, in challenging situations with significant others, in being confident, or how they approach the world. I have always loved horses, ever since I was a child. I grew up taking lessons and competed for several years. After college I started working for a therapeutic riding center and that really opened my eyes to the magical side of horses. I always knew horses were beneficial through my experience with them, but seeing how much they could impact others and make such a huge difference in someone’s life inspired me. As I began my journey on personal development I really saw a strong connection with what horses teach us, and how to grow as a person. I have learned so many life lessons through the horses, and I love that I get to share that knowledge with others. In 2020 I really recognized what was no longer working in my life, and made the decision to leave the therapy center and start my own business. I had a steep learning curve, but I was determined to make it work! I am so grateful to have the horses and their wisdom in my life, especially when I have had challenging situations arise in my life. One of the biggest and most powerful lessons I have learned through horses, and have applied to starting my business is staying in the present moment. It was very easy for me to become overwhelmed with everything I needed to do, but taking it one step at a time, keeping my eyes on where I want to go, while staying in the present moment have allowed me to create my business and help others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
With so many amazing places in San Diego to visit and experience, my friend and I would have a busy week! Some of the top places on my list would be La Jolla shores, Balboa park, go for a hike in Mission Trails, and take a scenic drive to the Cuyamaca Mountains. There are so many amazing places to explore from the mountains to the ocean! Trilogy Sanctuary would be on my list for an awesome yoga class or community event, and delicious vegan food. City Tacos has some of my favorite tacos! Stella Jean Ice Cream for amazing dairy free flavors on a gluten free waffle cone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank Kyleen Cossey for supporting my vision and helping me make my dream a reality.
