We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Swan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For the past 15yrs before starting my business, I was primarily in the finance industry. I did well and was promoted regularly throughout my financial career. I choose that path because of the massive potential financially and also to make my family happy. The last 5 years (2013-2018) in finance were the most difficult. I really disliked my career path and would wake up every day wanting to call in sick. In 2012 I started detailing friends and family’s cars. I loved that I was able to “wow” people by making their cars look better than they ever imagined. At the time, I wasn’t committed to one career or another. I was afraid to leave finance and focus on my detailing business full time. I was told i would never make enough money to support myself and my family. I let the noise in my head win for 6 years until one day I just decided to do what I felt would make me happy. It was the biggest risk and decision I had ever made and failure was not an option. My grandfather always told me to “do what you love, do what makes you happy. When you love what you do and are happy, success will come to you”, he was absolutely right and making the decision to follow my heart was the best decision I ever made. I wish I hadn’t allowed naysayers and my own lack of confidence to be a successful entrepreneur held me back as long as it did. However, sometimes we need more than just an idea and a desire to become something. Sometimes we need to have that “I told you I’d make it” type of attitude to push us to our full potential!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I feel like one thing that sets me apart from most people in my industry is my background and finance and the interpersonal communication skills I acquired over that 15-year career. I believe the relationship building skills has had a significant impact on how fast my business grew, as well as the type of clientele I was able to acquire in such a short amount of time. When I started my business I literally had nothing. I started with a bucket of supplies from Walmart and was determined to become the best I could possibly be in my line of work. Within the first year I was top 10 on Yelp and within a year and a half I was top five and all of Las Vegas. Being able to communicate effectively and treat potential clients as if they were investing money with me (which in a way they are) is without a question my biggest edge.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a tough one. It would depend on where that friend that’s visiting me is from. If it was my friends from the desert, i would without a doubt take them to the beach. Take them to the fish market, go on a hike in the mountains, Do things that they cannot do or see because they live in the desert. My big city friends. I would probably take them south of the border for a new experience haha
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is one person who if not for them I wouldn’t be where I’m at today nor the person I am today. My friend Craig introduced me to a way of seeing life and how we choose to live our life that has forever changed me! Thank you Craig and thank you to all the people who believed in me when they had no reason to believe in me!
