We had the good fortune of connecting with Roxanne Udvarhelyi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roxanne, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had been in Hospitality Management, and Glenn in Construction Management, and we wanted to start our own business for a long time, but just needed the right idea. When I had the idea to open our own Kayak Fishing Business in San Diego, with my husband as the lead guide, we immediately knew it was a winner! The whole process has been amazing, and with the right niche at the right time, it’s been busy and growing all the time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When we got started, there was nothing like this here, a Hobie Kayak Fishing charter that caters to all of San Diego’s fisheries. It’s been so fun starting something new and different than what everyone else is doing, and trying different fishing trips all the time. Being a Woman Owned Business in a Man Dominated Industry has actually been great, and it’s one of my main goals to promote more women fishing! San Dog Kayak Adventures is our way of getting the most people as possible out on the water, having a day of fishing and enjoying some of the most beautiful fisheries in the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My husband and co-owner Glenn is a Native San Diegan, and has lived here for over 40 years. As lead guide he is always pointing guests for a good seafood dinner to “Point Loma Seafood”, South Beach in OB for fish tacos. Rocky’s is great for burgers. We love Sunset Cliffs for checking out a sunset. Silver Strand State beach has some amazing shells. Torrey Pines is world class golfing, for epic fishing book with San Dog Kayak Adventures!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I want to thank God, the idea came to me when I was praying, and I knew it was right from the beginning. We also want to thank our friend Carol, who gave us a loan in the beginning to help get us started right away. Also, thank you to our guests and our guides Shaun, Grant, Bryan and Glenn, the other owner/lead guide, for putting all the guests on fish every day!
