We had the good fortune of connecting with Rose Mcfadden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rose, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of our brand is community building. As the sole designer for Isabella Rose Design Co., I’ve realized that building a strong, engaged community has been pivotal to our growth. Over the years, we’ve laid a solid foundation for our designer collections, brand development, and marketing strategies, which has allowed us to expand our creative teams across the country and teaching globally. Our podcast, Business Corner, shines a spotlight on the incredible professionals we collaborate with and admire, further strengthening our network, and theirs.

Our partnerships with local art galleries, museums, and organizations in Southern California have been integral to weaving our success with the reputation of IRDCO. We also prioritize giving back, working with non-profits like We Luv San Diego, which supports vital initiatives around ending human trafficking, homelessness and hunger in our city.
When building a brand, it’s about more than just business growth—it’s about the legacy we leave behind. For us, that means creating a lasting impact through leadership, creativity, and service to our communities.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Navajo-owned company, I take great pride in being the sole artist behind our designs, which seamlessly blend traditional and modern elements. No collection is ever the same. I love pushing boundaries by working with multimedia elements and natural textures, always striving to create art that feels alive and authentic. One of my deepest inspirations comes from my Navajo heritage, particularly our use of natural stones like turquoise, which hold such a profound significance in our traditional jewelry. I honor this by incorporating these elements into many of my designs, paying tribute to how we, as a people, adorn ourselves with the beauty of the earth.

My journey as an artist was born out of necessity, healing, and a deep desire to reconnect with my roots. As a Purple Heart war veteran, I’ve faced numerous physical and emotional challenges, but it was in the studio where I found solace. Art became my meditation. Working with my hands—whether molding clay, shaping precious metals, or meticulously focusing on the tiniest details—allowed me to channel my energy into something transformative. What began as a personal healing practice eventually grew into a thriving wearable art business.

I’m most proud of how art has empowered me to dream again. Even in the face of uncertainty, I learned to trust myself, to move beyond the limitations imposed by injury. I was told I’d live a life bound by disability, but through faith, the support of my family, and a passion for creativity, I’ve not only overcome these obstacles but built something beautiful. My art has become a way to share this journey with others, and teaching it—both locally and globally—has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

Through it all, the greatest lesson I’ve learned is that healing and growth come when we trust the process and remain open to the possibilities. Art gave me that second chance, and I’m eternally grateful to God, my family, and the community that believed in my vision. My story is one of resilience, hope, and the belief that beauty truly can be found in every challenge.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego, Southern California, is pure magic—there’s really no place like it! If my best friend came to visit for a week, we’d be diving headfirst into everything this incredible area has to offer. First up, the beaches! We’d definitely spend time in Carlsbad or La Jolla Shores, where the oceanfront restaurants serve up both unbeatable views and fresh, delicious seafood. La Jolla’s got this perfect balance of laid-back vibes and scenic beauty, so it’s a great spot to start.

No visit is complete without getting out on the water, so I’d book us a whale-watching tour. There’s nothing quite like spotting dolphins racing alongside the boat or witnessing a majestic whale breach the surface—it’s an experience that’ll leave you in awe. And if we’re lucky, we might even catch a glimpse of a great white’s fin or some sea turtles gliding through the water. Afterward, we’d hit the ocean for a kayak or snorkeling session in La Jolla Cove—depending on the season, of course. The underwater world there is too stunning to miss!

For an adrenaline rush, we’d do a sunset skydive with Pacific Coast Skydiving. Imagine freefalling over the Pacific with the entire Southern California coast stretching out below, and the sun setting in the most vibrant colors over the water—it’s unreal, and something you just have to experience at least once in your life.

We’d also have to visit SeaWorld for an up-close encounter with orcas—dining with them is a must! There’s something special about sitting down to a meal while these incredible creatures swim just feet away from you. And of course, we’d hike the coastal cliffs, explore the hidden coves, and hit as many piers as possible. Whether it’s watching surfers catch waves or just soaking in the endless beauty of the ocean, San Diego’s got something for everyone. A week wouldn’t be enough, but we’d pack in as much fun, adventure, and gorgeous scenery as possible!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my husband Ryan, and business partner, he has been an incredible pillar of strength as we build another business together. His unwavering support in every facet of our lives allows me to step confidently onto the big stage.

Artistic expression thrives on community, and I’m deeply thankful for the amazing artists and designers who have come alongside IRDCO. Their encouragement, inspiration, and partnerships have been invaluable. I always strive to be that person for others, helping them achieve their dreams just as they’ve uplifted mine. This year, we wrapped up a phenomenal ISKAH collaboration with Rebekah Jarvey, A’nglee Clause, James Skeet, Leslie Hernandez, Laura Quisquis, Tatianna Blackgoat, and Marcus Tso, bringing a fusion of cultural designs to life in wearable art.

A big shoutout to our Houston team—Branda Lozano Photography and our talented brand models Delia Lozano-Sanjuan, Ingrid Moran, Angie Velasquez, and Emily Tovar. And lastly, a heartfelt thank you to Ruth-Ann Thorn, Nizhoni Antle, and Edel Quejado for our recent Navajo Collection collaboration shoot at EC Gallery in San Diego. This incredible network of creative individuals is the driving force behind our success, and I’m beyond grateful for each of them.
