Meet Rosalinda Alexander | Founder/Executive Director of Green Rose Productions

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosalinda Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosalinda, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by people who are authentic and genuine. I am the Founder and Executive Director of Green Rose Productions, a non profit organization with the mission of creating events to help those with disabilities find their purpose and independence through the arts. I have worked with adults with disabilities for over a decade, and find them to be very inspiring. The people I have met are very honest and truthful, my favorite artists are those that have to overcome incredible adversity to express themselves artistically. They don’t really care what others think, as long as they are pleased with their work. I believe that’s how we should all function as artists.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer, playwright and producer. My motive for creating is to bring people together to create community over art. It took me over 14 years to create the non profit, Green Rose Productions. It started out as an opera company and has expanded into a wide range of artistic works. I am most proud of the art that comes from the creative team, comprised of people with disabilities, ranging from autism to down syndrome to cerebral palsy. We work together to come up with ideas and scripts. Our latest production took place at a cemetery for Dia de los Muertos. We researched local town founders and created, “The Time Traveling Trolley Tour”. We invited the community to purchase a ticket and go back in time to meet historical figures in person. The Trolley Tour stopped at several locations around the grounds where are our actors, along with a local theater troupe, brought notable figures from the 1800s back to life. No matter what Green Rose is creating, the focus is to integrate people with disabilities into the general public. I’m most proud of our “Prayer of Protection”, written by an autistic person named Josiah Banks. It was invented in 2019 to help those survive the upcoming world changes of 2020. We teach this wherever we are performing. Green Rose Production’s logo is the symbol of the heart chakra. I’ve learned that one must work from the heart when creating art. The logo is to remind us of our mission, to work from love, to spread love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to my alma mater, Point Loma Nazarene University, one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. Ocean Beach is a favorite hangout spot, and the Cabrillo National Monument.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped me survive, learn and grow. Tis’ hard to name but one! My voice teacher Layna Chianakas is a rockstar. She does it all…sings, teaches, stage directs, is a wife and Mom. She does it all beautifully. My husband is a source of inspiration. He helps me plan my artistic endeavors, reminds me that I can do what I put my mind to and gives me courage.
My students with disabilities are my muses. Their endless creativity, support and patience have gotten me through all of life’s curveballs. I love them.
