We had the good fortune of connecting with Rochelle Cheever and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rochelle, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My background and upbringing has a lot to do with my artistic identity and person as a whole. My American parents moved to Rome, Italy when I was just 11 months old. In fact, my little brother was born in Rome. I grew up with classical art and surrounded by work created by the masters: Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and other iconic artists. Rome is an open museum and every corner is breathtakingly beautiful. From early childhood I’ve always love art and have always been creative. Strange because I was the only one in the family with any inclination to art. I loved to play the piano (took 12 years of classical piano lessons, love to cook (almost everyone Italy loves to cook & eat good quality food), draw and paint. Wherever I am in the world, whatever I do or photograph, Italy is always embedded. I strive for the quality and timeless beauty Of classical art especially the renaissance masters.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It was hard in the sense that no one in my family knew anything about art. So I had to pave my own way. Actually I always was considered the black sheep of the family or the “flaky artist.” But when in art college I realized that there were people like me that have a need to create. The whole journey sure taught me discipline.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a photographer who loves to discover and photograph beautiful places, heads the Beaches and towns. Sunset cliffs, del mar, La Jolla, Solana Beach. It kind of like the Amalfi Coast with A more majestic Coastline.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Rome & Italy all of it. I even wrote a book on Italy (that won 2 awards. Maybe Awar (American association of rome) that is part of FAWCO where I was also president.they helped me develop learn how to entertain, plan events and launch my career.
