Meet Robyn Koenig | Small Business Coach & Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robyn Koenig and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My initial thought process behind starting my own business was a firm belief that I was in the driver’s seat of my life, despite having been laid off from my previous job for the second time in my career. I honestly didn’t have a lot of clarity around the type of business I wanted to create, but I knew what I DIDN’T want which was a huge factor in my business development process. I started by exploring what I enjoyed doing the most and how I could use my skills and experience to build a business that would help solve a problem for people. Once this started to formulate in my mind, the bigger vision incorporated my core values for the type of life I wanted by business to support which centered around putting my family first and my passion to help people. It’s a whirlwind process (as any business owner would likely attest to) and to this day, more than four years since I started my business, I regularly remind myself that I chose this opportunity and I GET to do what I love in the way that I want to do it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I spent the past 20 years cultivating my leadership experience across diverse roles in corporate, non-profit and freelance industries. After my second layoff in 2017, I decided I no longer wanted to put the fate of my career and ultimate happiness in someone else’s hands so I started over with my own plan and launched my business. I realized all I really wanted to do was help other people find the same joy, freedom and confidence in their life as a result of having a successful and thriving business. By combining a positive mindset and clarity of direction with very intentional action, I help small business owners create powerful change that lasts. I love helping small business owners because I’m one too!
As a certified professional coach and small business consultant, I use a hybrid approach to help them run their business like they MEAN business. I consult with small business owners by providing suggestions, ideas, insights, and resources on how to get them where they want to go with their business, and when they get stuck I can then coach them through the process. Ultimately, I’m the navigator and they’re the driver. I love challenging people to THINK differently, SEE things differently and then DO things differently to create powerful change for themselves and their business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love San Diego and specifically the coastal north county area of Carlsbad. When friends and family come to visit I enjoy showing them the downtown village of Carlsbad and a taking nice walk along the beachfront. For some good eats, I’d grab a delicious burrito from Vallarta, sushi from Blue Ocean, breakfast at Swami’s, and the best homemade ice cream from Handel’s I also love visiting the Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays and watching Monday Night football at Barrel Republic. And for some retail therapy I go straight to the Retail Therapy Boutique! For me, it’s all about supporting our local small businesses.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband deserves an award for his rock solid support and encouragement as I’ve navigated the waters of career change and business development over the last 10 years. His confidence in me was strong from the very beginning and has been unwavering as I’ve pivoted, shifted and grown to reach my goals. I vividly remember being nervous about telling him I was going to start my own business versus continuing to apply for other job opportunities and he said: “You will be successful in anything you decide to do!” That put me at ease and gave me the reassurance to move forward.
