We had the good fortune of connecting with ricky lee gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ricky lee, how do you think about risk?
i have always been confident or maybe just foolish enough to take risks, Though to take risks is to seek a truth to keep moving through the things that you dont want in pursuit of what is your truth. So important to not settle , to not compromise and to push through on your path The fool is not foolish ,he is a seeker, with an inherent wisdom that pulls him to jump off the cliff not knowing what is there but knowing there is a truth that awaits discovery. The fool is a wise seeker
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Thats a long and winding story, but in short I was always seeking a stillness in life and hough that i guess i got lost in many pursuits had allot of success early on with owing a gallery and ad agency I was un happy I thought i wanted to help build community through my work by being an organiser but i realized i needed to serve myself before i could serve others my art was a tool to heal Through along path i realized a few years ago i yearned for a place to build a studio/home that would serve as a temple to be able to create the work i was longing to create and a life that would be nourishing for me and my art, and an art that would serve this life , a balance , a coexistence. A space to create and be removed from the distractions of the world i knew The discovery of mindfulness meditation became an integral shift in my life . Teachings of present focused awareness ,in everything you do, breathing walking, listening, being, to apply this to my art practice transforms my motivations for creating, the process becomes a practice not an ambition or pursuit of result The practice evolves and allows for the work to present itself as needed, this removes the anxiety or ego of creating and allows for soft appreciation and allot of joy in my day to day life
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
empty beaches and raw surf
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
everything and everyone along the path has inspired me, the good and the bad, i think the dharma that the buddha though encompasses this all, everything is an inseperete and interconnected truth
