We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhianna Basore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rhianna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a drama school trained creative, I thought becoming an expert on my craft was all I needed to do. The success would be inevitable after a certain level was achieved. Yet when I found myself living my creative dreams, my bank account didn’t seem to match! I didn’t understand why career success didn’t translate into the security and financial safety I knew I needed to navigate the ups and downs of creative life. I just knew there had to be a better way. I took a step back from pursuing my acting career and learned what drama school never taught me, mainly how to run my creative career like the business it is! Once I paid off all my debt, began to build up a retirement portfolio for myself, and even bought a house in San Diego, I realized I had knowledge that I needed to share to help my fellow creatives thrive. I opened up Self Trust Fund, my money mindset coaching company to help my fellow creative entrepreneurs fund their dream life. I have loved seeing the major money moves my clients have made, including launching their intuitive healing company that runs exclusive self-love retreats all over the world, finally leaving their 9 to 5 job to write and travel full time, and landing that first big contract that pays them well so they can run their company with a CEO salary. I truly believe creatives are the future of business and taking great care of ourselves is the best investment we can make.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as a professional actress in high school. I was lucky to be chosen to step in when a key performer walked off the job while doing an internship at a summer Shakespeare festival. I loved the support of my fellow actors as I learned blocking and lines within minutes of going on that night. The rest is history! I was fortunate to travel the world performing and learning from some great creatives leaders. But it wasn’t always easy. As a trained classical theatre actor, I never understood why the rigor of my preparation didn’t translate into dollars in the bank. Effort did not equal financial reward. I couldn’t see a path to where I wanted to go so I made one for myself. I taught myself what success looked like as a creative business owner and now I do the same thing for my clients. Creativity is the superpower we need and we should be well paid for it. It’s my job to help my clients earn and keep the money they deserve from their valuable creative contributions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always start in Ocean Beach. We would walk by the ocean, pet the dogs at dog beach, and then grab some fish tacos and margaritas while we watch the sun set. Then on Saturday, a late easy brunch near Balboa Park before we stroll around the museums, gardens, and architecture. Panama 66 is the perfect place to wind down after a day of rich culture in one of our most beautiful spots in town. Sunday would be the Hillcrest farmer’s market and then some antiquing and thrift shopping around town. We have so many great spots, both know and unknown, that it would be a shame not to do some treasure hunting with my friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate my success to Kathleen Rogers who first showed me the power of creativity to change lives, mine own and the people I touch. She is truly my fairy godmother and I owe her so much!
