We had the good fortune of connecting with Renata Ottoni and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renata, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
There are moments in our professional lives when we stop to evaluate our work and the expectations we generate in it. And in those moments I already thought about giving up, several times! Sometimes a bad weather or a session that was not as I expected. There are times when insecurity speaks louder and you may think your job is not so good. But I always like to remember that each session has its particularity, and so, what could be simple, can create a much greater value than I expected. That is why I try to make each session a unique moment for both the client and me. This way I know that my work was important for that family that will always look at those pictures and cherish that moment.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im Renata, photographer. I love to photograph people. That’s it: people. It can be small families, big families, babies, couples, it can be just you or even you and your dog (or just your dog because… who doesn’t love puppies?) Im from São Paulo, big concrete jungle in Brazil and have been living in San Diego for the past 5 years. I’ve been working with photography for the past 12 years. My career as a photographer started when I was an assistant in a photo studio specialized in family and maternity. It was a long journey to get me comfortable with where I am today. With time I realized that studio was not really my thing and that I love outdoors and to play with natural sun light.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh San Diego is SO different from São Paulo, SO MANY places to take my best friend! Hahaha, to start: The beaches! Windandsea and Blacks beach are my all time favorites! Also Sea Port Village and downtown so they can see how different a urban scenario can be from what we were used to! I love PB and the young vibe of it! My favorite meal of the day is breakfast so I would definitely take them to The Fig Tree for awesome eggs an pancakes! There are no better place in the United States to eat some mexican food than California, so we would hit Robertos for a California burrito with mexican coke! Crumbls Cookies is for sure a place I would take them for dessert! A walk at the boardwalk, watch the sunset and maybe enjoy a few drinks at El Prez. Oh wow! I just realize i really like Pacific Beach! hahaha
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
