We had the good fortune of connecting with Reena Vokoun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my own business and launched my company, Passion Fit, after about 16-17 years of working in digital marketing, sales and business development roles in corporate America for Fortune 500 companies such as Google, Yahoo, Reebok and GE. I’ve always had a passion for health and wellness, and I knew I eventually wanted to incorporate this line of work into my career to help others.

I also was in a time in my life when I had experienced burnout from trying to balance my fast-paced career in the digital media and tech industries and having a family with my husband and two sons. I knew there were other working moms facing those same struggles and challenges, so I decided to create a brand and company with a mission of empowering women to flourish both personally and professionally through wellness.

Passion Fit serves individuals, companies, non-profits, schools, universities and the media to help people transform their lives through a focus on fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, work-life balance, productivity and healthy lifestyles.

My goal is to help others on their own unique wellness journey, and to teach them how to live a Passion Fit Life through products, services and content including, books, corporate wellness programs, transformational programs, monthly memberships, online courses, personal and professional development coaching and consulting, local and livestream fitness, yoga and dance classes, an online boutique of activewear and accessories, wellness retreats, workshops and speaking engagements, a YouTube channel, a blog, newsletters, social media content and media appearances.

Living a Passion Fit Life can allow others to banish burnout, step into their power, gain more energy, optimize their physical and mental health, enhance their relationships, take their careers to the next level, pursue their passions, experience new adventures and enjoy life to the fullest!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I feel very fortunate to have a multifacted career. I graduated from college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a business degree in marketing and management, and from graduate school at Boston University with a master’s degree in advertising and communications. I enjoyed working in corporate America because I learned so much about how successful businesses operate. While my focus was on digital marketing, sales and business development, I also worked cross-functionally with teams in finance, accounting, operations, legal, product and engineering.

In addition, I’ve been certified in health coaching, fitness, nutrition, behavior change, yoga/mindfulness, employee wellbeing and professional strengths-based coaching through the American Council on Exercise, Athletics and Fitness Association of America, IDEA Fitness and Gallup. In becoming an entrepreneur, I’ve been able to combine my business education and work experience with with my health and wellness training to build a business, company and brand from the ground up, in order to make a positive impact in the world.

I’m also a mom, wife and first generation-born Indian-American. Therefore, what sets me apart from others is my experience in both corporate America and entrepreneurship, in both business and health and wellness, in having a career and family and in having an Eastern and Western approach to wellbleing.

I’m most proud of my family, building Passion Fit, being a TEDx speaker and being a published author. It wasn’t easy to get to where I am today, and I still have so much growth and development ahead of me. However, I’ve overcome obstables and challenges along the way by truly being passionate about the work I’m doing to help others, having a supportive family who believes in me and never giving up on my mission and vision for my brand. Hard work, commitment and a belief in something bigger than ourselves is critical in order to succeed personally and professionally.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Southern California has my heart and my favorite spots in the San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles areas include La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Manhattan Beach, Beverly Hills and Hollywood. I would take my friend out for shopping, dining, dancing, hikes, workouts, beach time and live music in these gorgeous areas!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family, including my husband, sons, parents, siblings and entire extended family. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their love and support. They mean everything to me. They’re my inspiration to keep learning, growing, building and creating a business, company and brand that’s dedicated to improving the lives of others. I’ll forever be thankful for my family and grateful for the purposeful work I get to do!
