Meet Rebecca Rogers | Social Media Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started out as a high school social studies teacher who was just trying to make my students laugh during online learning. My kiddos were my “why”. I didn’t mean to go viral, it was a complete accident. I think keeping the kids in both my mind and my heart has been a huge impact on me and where my social media accounts are now. Once my social media started blowing up, I realized I could both bring awareness to the broken education system while having fun and making people laugh. That has been my new focus and thought process!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make skits about real things that happen in classrooms, from from stories given to me from teachers all over the world. From these skits I have reached 1.3M on TikTok, 1M on YouTube, 86k on Facebook, and 76k on Instagram. I have also recently started a podcast called “Teachers Off Duty” with a few other social media teachers and the media organization Bored Teachers. This podcast officially launched in January 2022 and is already averaging 35k downloads a week! I have learned a lot about hard work, getting out what you put in, and maintaining a brand image. This kind of work looks so easy from the outside, but there is so much that goes into this kind of stuff that most people never see. Sometimes I am up until 1AM fixing and editing videos and getting them uploaded to platforms. Even though I do not have a typical 9-5 work day, I don’t really have “days off”. If I do not stay relevant and present, it puts my brand at risk of people losing interest. Finding that balance between maintaining relevance and having a personal life has taken a long time to figure out, and I am even still working on it. Even through all the learning curves and balance attempts, my “why” still stands. I started this platform to make people (especially my kiddos) smile. I have since added raising awareness about the broken education system, but at its heart I want my platforms to make people laugh, feel seen, and apart of.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
They are coming to Raleigh? If they have kids, Pullen Park would be super fun, if not then hiking in Umstead park may be a better option. There are also a lot of really great museums in the area like the Natural Science Museum and the History Museum. If they are more of an artsy person, the DPAC has tons of great Broadway shows! There are so many great places to eat in Raleigh. If you are a beer kind of person, the Raleigh Beer Garden has HUNDREDS of on tap beer options. If you are feeling something fancier there are places like Second Empire. Fast food I would definitely go with some local favorites like Cookout or Snoopys. BUT no matter what, when visiting Raleigh, everyone has to try Howling Cow Ice Cream. This is Ice Cream made from the milk from the NCSU cows.
Local and iconic!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I could shoutout! BUT I know exactly who deserves it. Shoutout to my students from the Fall 2020 semester who got me on social media in the first place. Without them, I would not even be on these apps, and my life would not have changed for the better. Shoutout to them for encouraging me, getting excited with me, and to this day showing up in my live streams hyping me up. They will forever hold a special place in my heart. I love all 102 of them to bits and pieces.
