We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Barazone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over the years, I have always made work a priority. This has helped me gain advanced experience in my field and drive my passion for what I do deeper. I have found that making work a priority has also provided me with positive distractions from things in my personal life that may have not been going so well. I have looked at my job opportunities as sort of a gift that has helped mold me to become a smarter and more motivated person. At the same time, I poured so much energy into my work that I began to experience periodic burn out. The need to make work a priority over my personal well-being became counterproductive. I finally decided to create a flexible lifestyle where I could maintain being an Account Executive and a Freelance Aesthetician – and still work hard, but pick the hours I wanted to work during the week, when I wanted to work. I believe I have been given these special jobs that are flexible because I have made many sacrifices in the past putting myself second. I’m glad I am at a place now where I can make both work and freedom a reality.
When there is not a healthy balance between work and your personal life, one will suffer first, leading both to eventually crumble. Our mental heath supersedes any amount of money we can make. We obviously need to work to survive, but I believe more Americans are demanding a better work-life balance these days thanks to mental heath awareness.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a licensed aesthetician for over 18 years and a makeup artist for over 20 years. I have had positions that I’ve absolutely loved and others that were challenging. Every experience has given me the ability to learn more about myself and my capabilities. I truly enjoy being a professional in the beauty industry and cannot see myself doing anything else. My experience as an Account Executive for Biophora Medical-Grade Skincare has been truly rewarding. I am thankful I can still practice my craft as a licensed aesthetician as well – educating and supporting people with their skin care goals is what I live for!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I LOVE Convoy. You can find some of the best food in San Diego located here. There are also some amazing speakeasies hidden within restaurants and bars off of Convoy that are incredibly fun to experience. Some of my favorite spots are Dumpling Inn, Music Bar and the Realm of 52 Remedies.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my beautiful mother Lesli for always motivating me to be a strong, independent woman.
