We had the good fortune of connecting with Pushpa Santhosh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pushpa, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe planned Risk taking is one of the best ways to grow business! Just don’t move all your coins at once. I say yes for most new opportunities/processes only when I am prepared to face the worst case scenario of that plan failing, given I am comfortable and sure that it wont shake the existence of my business. The key here is to not stop trying after a failed attempt. If it works out then it is a great bonus! If it fails, you know what is not working for your business and you can channel your time and energy on the next opportunity that might actually boom your business!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am Pushpa Santhosh and I started my company Buzzee 3 years ago, where we make reusable food wraps to replace your single use plastic wraps and bags! While I enjoyed every moment of spending time with my daughter full time, there was this void always bothering me because I wasn’t working or contributing to my family’s finances. When my daughter started going to school full day, we had our son and again I was back at square one. Since I was little, I have always loved my father’s business of making fabric, and wanted to have my own business! I wanted to start something where I can channel my energy and passion. I felt enough is enough and asked my parents to help me in making our first beeswax wrap as they have been weaving cotton for more than 4 decades. We started building our business wrap by wrap while my parents take care of the manufacturing and I do the designing, product development, marketing , sales etc. Now we employ 12 first generation college students part time, who are equally passionate about acquiring a degree as well as helping their families! Our wraps can be found in about 450 stores across the US and distributed in Australia and New Zealand!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have not been to California. I hope to be there sometime in 2021 though 🙂
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Kids! Starting a business from scratch is hard and time consuming. You can imagine how they must feel when their stay at home mom who was there with them 24/7 suddenly isn’t around most of the time. They are doing a great job in adjusting to this new reality(3+ years) and supporting me as much as they can! I always try to involve them in some of the business activities where my daughter(11) tries and brainstorms new product ideas whereas my son(4) simply wants to be “Business Man” like mommy when he grows up! P.S – We still have our crazy days where the decibels are too loud for human ears!
